Unmasked

Mixed media on canvas board (acrylic, paper, surgical masks), 14 x 18″, completed in 2020.

From the artist:
“Early in the pandemic we did not receive masks at work, then we started to get one surgical mask per week. I saved them, I thought about using them in art. After the murder of George Floyd, I thought about the intersection between the pandemic, structural racism and the basic human need to freely breath. The collage is made with masks, newspaper clippings & coarse pumice gel to simulate the asphalt Mr. Floyd was pressed into.”
