Bradford Towne Joins GSDM

On May 21, Dr. Bradford M. Towne joined the full time faculty of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) and Boston Medical Center (BMC). His responsibilities will include pre-doctoral and post-doctoral education at GSDM and outpatient clinical care in the Yawkey-5 clinic at BMC. Dr. Towne brings a wealth of experience in ambulatory anesthesia, dental implants, bone grafting, and dentoalveolar surgery.

Chair of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs Dr. Pushkar Mehra said, “We are extremely happy that Dr. Towne has joined our BU family. He brings a wealth of clinical and administrative experience from his tenure both in private practice and in the armed forces.” Mehra continued, “Dr. Towne’s close involvement with the AAOMS where he served both as a Board Trustee and Delegate for many years is an asset to the Department.”

Dr. Towne received his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. After graduating from dental school, he served three years in the United States Army. He completed his residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1983, earning his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study. He then practiced in Vermont until 2011. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and served on its board of trustees from 1997 through 2001. He is a Fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Towne is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of various professional organizations and has been inducted as a Fellow of both the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. Dr. Towne also holds appointments as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and served as Chair of the Credentials Committee there for more than 10 years.
