Dr. Genco has trained numerous undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral trainees (Ph.D., M.D. and D.D.S.).  Four postdoctoral and three predoctoral students are currently in training.  She has considerable expertise in training minority students.  She currently serves on three BU Institutional Training Grants.  She has also served as mentor on individual NIH training grants and the BU undergraduate research opportunities program.  She has been heavily involved in the BU City Lab Program.  She has trained students from programs outside of BU, including international students from the University of Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico and Trinity College, Ireland and has also trained visiting scientists from Taiwan and Egypt.  Work in Dr. Genco’s laboratory is focused on three areas: 1) Pathogen Induced Chronic Inflammatory Disorders; 2) Innate Immune Responses to Mucosal Pathogens; and 3) Regulatory Mechanisms in Bacterial Pathogens.
