Ava Bakhtyari, MD received her BS degree in biochemistry and molecular biology as part of the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She obtained her medical degree at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont where she served as student body President. She completed her neurology residency and neuromuscular medicine fellowship at Boston University Medical Center.

Dr. Bakhtyari practices at Boston University Medical Center, where she cares for patients with a range of both general neurology and neuromuscular disorders. Her special interests include autoimmune peripheral nerve disorders, neuromuscular junction disorders, muscle disorders, and motor neuron disease. She enjoys spending time in the Amyloidosis Center at Boston University Medical Center.

Dr. Bakhtyari’s clinical interests include electro-diagnostics, peripheral nervous system manifestations of autoimmune disorders and amyloidosis. She enjoys education and working with medical students and residents. She is currently working on a project for the neurology residents addressing goals of care and end of life discussions with a focus on cultural preferences.
