Celebrating Resilience During Recovery Month
Last week, Boston Medical Center staff shared powerful stories of strength and recovery as part of an event hosted by the Grayken Center for Addiction in recognition of National Recovery Month. BMC stands alongside the millions of individuals and families who have been impacted by addiction. The Grayken Center’s Recovery Month events seek to remember the lives that have been lost to this chronic condition, to reduce the stigma of substance use and substance use disorders, and to spread the message that treatment works and recovery is possible.
In addition to this reflective event, where stories of recovery and resiliency were shared, the center hosted wellness events for staff, a series of talks focused on recovery, and spaces for celebration and community building among both staff and patients.
In the words of Dr. Judy Platt, MD, Chief Health Officer for Boston University, Recovery Month is “a time to celebrate the strength and resilience of those in recovery from substance use disorders and addiction, and to promote resources and support systems that make recovery possible.”
