A Scoping Review of Youth Overdose Prevention Interventions
Clinician investigators and research staff in the Section of General Internal Medicine recently co-authored “A Scoping Review of Youth Overdose Preventions,” published online ahead of print last month in the Journal of Addiction Medicine. Moriah Wiggins, BS, Avik Chatterjee, MD, MPH, and Sarah Bagley, MD, MSc, conducted this scoping review in collaboration with investigators from the departments of Pediatrics and Medical Sciences and Education, as well as Boston University School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School, and UMass Chan Medical School. The review summarizes existing youth overdose prevention interventions and delineates what is needed to refine, implement, and disseminate this critical information to prevent youth overdose. The study identified a small number of youth-specific overdose prevention interventions, and the authors assert the urgent need to develop, implement, and test interventions that address gaps in the youth overdose prevention landscape.
