Monica E. Peek Delivers 2025 Moskowitz Memorial Lecture
Earlier this month, Monica E. Peek, MD, MPH, MSc, FACP delivered the annual Mark A. Moskowitz Memorial Lecture for the Section of General Internal Medicine Grand Rounds. Her lecture, titled “Medicine & The Rise of Truth Decay: The Role of Clinicians, Educators, and Investigators,” discussed the predictors of democratic decline and the implications for health equity. After examining these implications — which include negative impacts on abortion care, equal protection, the physician pipeline, DEI education and programming, gender-affirming care, and more — Dr. Peek addressed the increase of misinformation and diminished trust in regard to healthcare. Dr. Peek concluded her presentation by highlighting the crucial role that clinicians, educators, and investigators play in confronting misinformation and advancing health equity. Later that day, Dr. Peek presented “The Evolution of Health Equity Frameworks: What Have We Learned?” at the Department of Medicine Grand Rounds.
At the University of Chicago, Dr. Peek is the Ellen H. Block Professor of Health Justice and the Associate Vice Chair of Research Faculty Development in the Department of Medicine. She is the Associate Director of the Chicago Center for Diabetes Translational Research and Director of Research for the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics. Dr. Peek also serves as the Executive Medical Director of Community Health Innovation at the Center for Healthcare Delivery Science & Innovation.
