- Area of Interest Unfolded Protein Response, Integrated stress signaling, Mitochondrial retrograde stress signaling
I did my Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Bose Institute, India. During my Ph.D., I explored the role of heat shock protein 90 in regulating MAPK signaling. Subsequently, I joined as a postdoc at New York University (NYU) to pursue my research work to understand Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) in controlling the transcriptional dynamics during age-related eye disorders using genetics and molecular biology in fruit flies and human cell lines respectively.
At present, in Dr. Perissi’s lab, I am exploring the principles governing the translocation of mitochondria-based transcription factors from mitochondria to the nucleus during retrograde stress signaling. The current project also focuses on the landscape study of chromatin remodeling during mitochondrial stress signaling. In a parallel project, I am also trying to uncover the role of stress-induced PARylation activity in neurogenesis and age-related neurodegeneration using fruit flies and human iPSC cells as a model system.
Mentoring is my second favorite thing in Science, doing Science itself being the first.
