The BU-BMC Cancer Center is developing patient care and research programs that transform cancer management through the discovery of innovative and personalized approaches for cancer prevention, detection and treatment. Inherent in our mission is the focus on understanding the molecular events associated with cancer initiation and progression in our diverse patient population and directly translating these findings into more effective prevention and treatment. The Center will bridge the gap between the clinical oncology and biomedical research communities and strengthen the infrastructure for clinical research, which includes increasing patient recruitment and expanding biosample banking integrated with clinical and genomic data. Furthermore these Programs will leverage the existing strengths at BU in computational biology, bioengineering, tissue biospecimen banking, regenerative medicine as well as the molecular cores.
The Research Programs will be formed around the research portfolio of the Center’s members and each Program will be overseen by a Program Director. Members will be encouraged to collaborate within as well as outside of their Program. The Center will foster these interactions through a monthly seminar series, retreats and research symposiums.
