RESEARCH RESOURCES

  • Surface Plasmon Resonance:

The Surface Plasmon Resonance Core Facility in the Biochemsitry Department at Boston University Medical Campus is equipped with a Biorad ProteOn XPR 36 system.  The ProteOn protein interaction array system is an SPR optical biosensor that provides real-time data on the affinity, specificity, and kinetics of protein interactions. Using XPR multiplexing technology, this system generates a 6 x 6 interaction array for the simultaneous analysis of up to six ligands and six analytes. This integrated system eliminates the need for radiochemical or fluorescent labels. Applications include antibody characterization and development, drug development, and protein complex and cascade analysis. more….

  • Confocal Microscopes: The department maintains a facility housing two confocal laser scanning microscopes for the use of the BUMC community. more…

  • Mass Spectrometry Resource: The department also maintains the Mass Spectrometry facility. The BUSM Mass Spectrometry Resource is engaged in the development and application of mass spectrometry methods for biology and medicine with primary emphasis on studies of oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates. Our laboratory is a Research Resource supported by the NIH National Center for Research Resources. more…

  • Applied Biosystems Real-Time PCR Systems: The Department houses 2 shared ABI 7300 and a Applied Biosystems ViiA Real-Time PCR Systems. These systems have multicolor detections systems that allow a variety of applications to be performed. They are currently located on K2 and K6 and are available on a sign-up basis. Questions regarding usage or training can be sent to Celeste Rich at cbrich@bu.edu

  • Our campus supports an array of core facilities, which are available to all faculty at BUSM and Boston University’s Charles River campus. Information on additional resources available for research can be found at the Boston University Core Facilities website.

TRAINING RESOURCES

  • Student Life:

Students are an important and integral part of any educational department and this is no different at BUSM’s Department of Biochemistry. Visit our site to learn more about the student activities and organizations sponsored through the department. more…

  • Office of Postdoctoral Affairs: website is dedicated to postdoctoral fellows throughout the Boston University medical campus and has been designed to offer a gateway for a wide range of resource information that will be of value during postdoctoral experience.

  • Responsible Conduct of Research:  The Responsible Conduct of Research program at BUSM is now required for all graduate students.

  • Helpful Links A variety of information pages are here from BUSM building codes, to lab safety and training, to human resources.  more…
