International Collaboration for Education and Research in Anesthesia

The International Collaboration for Education and Research in Anesthesia (ICERA) was founded in 2021 as a partnership to develop an innovative platform to advance education and training in the field of anesthesiology on a global front. ICERA is a platform for anesthesiology residents and established anesthesiologists to enhance their learning, exchange ideas, engage in research, and build networks, particularly with international contributors.
The idea for this collaboration emerged from the friendship between Dr. Rafael Ortega, Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at Boston University and Dr. Federico Bilotta, Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at Sapienza University. Inspired by the educational challenges and isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the rise of digital conferencing platforms like Zoom, Dr. Ortega and Dr. Bilotta initiated a series of lectures featuring experts in various areas of anesthesiology, ranging from neurocognitive recovery after anesthesia to the impact of fatigue on performance in anesthesiology. A complete list of previous presentations can be found here.
