Dr. Foley earned her B.S. in Psychobiology from Simmons College. She then received her PhD in Neuroscience from Tufts University. As a graduate student in the lab of Dr. Philip Haydon, Dr. Foley focused her research on the function of astrocytes in normal and abnormal physiology. After her PhD, Dr. Foley conducted research at Harvard Medical School, working in the lab of Dr. Gary Yellen. She investigated how a genetic manipulation of cellular metabolism conferred seizure protection in a mouse model of epilepsy.

Dr. Foley teaches components of various histology courses. As an educator who is passionate about DEIJ, Dr. Foley prioritizes inclusivity in her teaching practice.
