Dr. Afifi received her B.S. in Biology from Suffolk University and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the Anatomy and Neurobiology Department at Boston University School of Medicine. Her graduate work at BUSM was alongside Drs. Jarrett Rushmore and Antoni Valero-Cabre studying the effects of non-invasive neurostimulation on visuo-spatial recovery following parietal cortex injury. Dr. Afifi has years of experience teaching at the medical school level in anatomy, neuroscience and histology. Currently Dr. Afifi is the director of the Human Body Systems course for the graduate school and will be teaching 1st year medical students in anatomy and neuroscience as well as 4th year medical students in clinical anatomy.  Dr. Afifi is currently pursuing her degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and aims to combine the use of psychotherapy to help diagnose and assess behavioral aspects of patients with progressive neurodegenerative diseases and brain injury.
