Familial Mediterranean Fever

Another condition which is prevalent in Armenia is Familial Mediterranean Fever which if unchecked can become amyloidosis, a deadly disease for which there is no cure. For years, the Partnership has sent to Armenia shipments of colchicine, the medicine which prevents FMF attacks and prevents the formation of amyloidosis. FMF affects children as well as adults. Hundreds of thousands of pills have been shipped using the Fund for Armenia’s airlift, and as recently as May of 2003 the Partnership sent a new shipment of 250,000 pills for treatment of this fever.
