Robert Bouchie is a graduate of the Boston University School of Management (SMG ’92). He worked in the pharmaceutical industry upon graduation, detailing cardiology & endocrinology pharmaceuticals throughout the Northeast for many years. His interest in anatomy and pathology led him back to college at the New England Institute for Anatomical & Mortuary Science. Following a two year apprenticeship at the Campbell Funeral Home in Beverly, Massachusetts, he became a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Upon his graduation he was recruited to work in the Department of Pathology at Children’s Hospital-Boston. Under the direction of Dr. Harold Kozakewich and Dr. Antonio Perez-Atayed he directed the medical autopsies and managed the department’s morgue. During this time he also assisted personnel at Boston University School of Medicine during the embalming of the anatomical donors. For the next year he divided his time between the two locations, before accepting the position of Anatomical Gift Coordinator and Anatomy Laboratory Manager in the BUSM Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology in 2001.

Rob speaks throughout the year with many Hospice organizations and convalescent groups about the Anatomical Gift Program. The program is a registry of prospective donors who have formally filled out the necessary papers to donate their bodies after death. The papers that are submitted are not contractual, but are considered an agreement between the donors and BUSM.
