Anderson, Ph.D."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Professor of Obstetrics\/Gynecology and Virology, Immunology &amp; Microbiology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>See\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/profiles.bu.edu\/Deborah.Anderson\">BU Profile<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>for additional information and publications.<\/p>\n<h3>Research Interest<\/h3>\n<p>My research addresses immunologic aspects of human reproductive health, and has\u00a0contributed to advances in understanding immunological\u00a0mechanisms underlying\u00a0male and female infertility, recurrent miscarriage, preeclampsia, gynecologic oncology and the sexual and vertical transmission of HIV-1.\u00a0\u00a0Our current research is focused on the development of vaccines and\u00a0topical microbicides\u00a0for the\u00a0control of sexually-transmitted pathogens including HIV-1.\u00a0 Towards this end,\u00a0we are studying\u00a0mechanisms of cell-associated HIV transmission and fundamental features of local immune defense functions at genital mucosal surfaces that\u00a0affect\u00a0HIV-1 pathogenesis and transmission.
