Kudos, Michel!<\/p>\n<h2>Stephanie D&#8217;Souza wins Award at the GSI Symposium<\/h2>\n<p>Congratulations to Stephanie D&#8217;Souza in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/virol-immunol-microbio\/people\/faculty\/thomas-b-kepler-ph-d\/\">Kepler Lab<\/a> for winning a poster award at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gsi\/initiatives\/research-symposium\/\">2015 GSI Symposium<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>SEPTEMBER\/OCTOBER<\/h2>\n<h2>Akshaya Ramesh receives Duke CHAVI-ID Award<\/h2>\n<p>Akshaya Ramesh in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/virol-immunol-microbio\/people\/faculty\/thomas-b-kepler-ph-d\/\">Thomas Kepler\u2019s lab<\/a>, won an award at the <a href=\"http:\/\/chavi-id-duke.org\/home\">Duke CHAVI-ID<\/a> annual conference held September 23-26, 2015 for her poster entitled \u201cImmunogenomics of the Rhesus macaque, an animal model for HIV vaccine development.&#8221; Congratulations, Akshaya.<\/p>\n<h2>Fadie Coleman successfully defends her dissertation!<\/h2>\n<p>Congratulations to Fadie Coleman in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/virol-immunol-microbio\/people\/faculty\/joseph-p-mizgerd-scd\/\">Jay Mizgerd\u2019s Lab<\/a> on the successful defense of her dissertation entitled, \u201cInfluence of Macrophage NF-kB Activation on Pneumococcal Pneumonia\u201d on September 29, 2015. Great job, Fadie!<\/p>\n<h2>Luis Agosto Receives Mathilde Krim Fellowship from amFAR<\/h2>\n<p>Luis Agosto, a postdoctoral fellow in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/virol-immunol-microbio\/people\/faculty\/andrew-j-henderson-phd\/\">Henderson Lab<\/a>, was awarded a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amfar.org\/mathilde-krim-fellowships-in-basic-biomedical-research\/\">Mathilde Krim Fellowship in Basic Biomedical Research<\/a> from the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR). This career development award is to facilitate the transition from postdoctoral fellow to an independent career in HIV\/AIDS research. Congratulations, Luis!<\/p>\n<h2>BUMC Provost Workshop Symposium co-organized by Barb Nikolajczyk<\/h2>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/virol-immunol-microbio\/people\/faculty\/barbara-s-nikolajczyk-phd\/\">Barb Nikolajczyk<\/a> organized the Sept 22 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/2015\/09\/17\/sept-22-bumc-provost-workshop-inflammation-symposium\/\">BUMC Provost Workshop<\/a> \u201cInflammation Symposium: Bipartisan Support by DAMPs and PAMPs\u201d (co-organizer, Dan Remick). The Corwin Award recognizes a student who exemplifies the characteristics of an outstanding departmental \u201ccitizen.\u201d Values of collegiality, scientific integrity, commitment to scientific endeavor, and active participation in departmental activites are all components taken into account when the selection of the Corwin Award recipient is made. These values best epitomize the contributions of Dr. Larry Corwin, a former member of the Microbiology Department for whom the award is named.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Jake Awtry in John Connor&#8217;s Lab is Awarded the Mark W. Riemen Summer Research Prize<\/h2>\n<p>We are pleased to announce that Jake Awtry, a BU undergrad working in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/virol-immunol-microbio\/people\/faculty\/john-h-connor-phd\/\">John Connor&#8217;s lab<\/a> has been awarded the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/prospective\/special-awards\/riemen\/\">Mark W. Riemen Summer Research Prize<\/a> and the accompanying FROG Award for supplies.
