Musculoskeletal Examination and Imaging with Dr. Eugene Kissin<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Kissin<\/a>\u00a0 founded and led the training program for USSONAR, the preeminent group for musculoskeletal ultrasound education in North America. He serves as the Program Director for the Boston University Rheumatology Fellowship Program, and continually strives to improve diversity and equity in the fellowship program. Dr. Kissin recognizes the importance of recruiting of URiM residents to Rheumatology Fellowship in order to develop a diversified rheumatology workforce.<\/p>\n

Dr. Eugene Kissin has created this 1-month Musculoskeletal Examination and Imaging Elective to help overcome the obstacles that URiM medical students and residents may face in getting mentored in joint and soft tissues examination, radiography and ultrasound imaging, as well as foster enthusiasm for a career in rheumatology.<\/p>\n

The goal of the training program is to attract URiM residents\/medical students to the field of Rheumatology through an intensive, month-long curriculum of training in musculoskeletal anatomy, physical examination, radiography and ultrasound examination through a virtual environment. Participants will be guided through web-based modules in musculoskeletal radiograph interpretation, musculoskeletal ultrasound use, and surface anatomy and musculoskeletal physical examination to be used as part of this curriculum.<\/p>\n

In addition, each trainee will receive a handheld ultrasound machine and iPad to allow them to perform ultrasound scanning with remote guidance and feedback from Dr. Kissin to optimize equipment use and speed the learning curve for the technique. The equipment will similarly allow remote guidance and feedback for physical examination techniques. The equipment will be kept by the participants at the conclusion of the elective to allow them to continue to learn and practice musculoskeletal ultrasound use.<\/p>\n

Each of the participants will also be invited to remotely join the Section of Rheumatology weekly teaching sessions, which includes case discussions, multidisciplinary rounds (e.g., Derm-Rheum, Rheum-Renal, Pulmonary-Rheum rounds), didactic rheumatology topics, journal club, radiology rounds, and grand rounds speakers.
