{"id":2387,"date":"2021-03-29T16:20:05","date_gmt":"2021-03-29T20:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/rheumatology\/?page_id=2387"},"modified":"2021-04-09T13:08:44","modified_gmt":"2021-04-09T17:08:44","slug":"commemorating-dr-burt-sack","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/rheumatology\/commemorating-dr-burt-sack\/","title":{"rendered":"Commemorating Dr. Burt Sack"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;I am sure no one can forget his X ray rounds every 2 weeks and as I learnt much later that they were very popular even at Brown University <\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Rheumatology Rounds.\u00a0 In addition to being an inspiring teacher and a committed doctor, he was a truly a great friend.\u00a0 Even after graduating, he\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">met with my wife and me in Providence a few times at his favorite Indian restaurant and fondly spoke of our kids&#8221;. <span style=\"color: #11256b;\"><strong><em>Deepan\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #11256b;\"><strong><em>Dalal<\/em><\/strong><\/span><span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;Burt truly was a shining light in all of our education&#8221;. <span style=\"color: #11256b;\"><em><strong>Elaine J. Alpert<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;Burt Sack was a wonderful Rheumatologist and a \u00a0wonderful human being. His passion for, and commitment to, our specialty will long be <\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">remembered&#8221;.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #11256b;\"><em><strong>Ted\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #11256b;\"><em><strong>Lally\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li>&#8220;He was one of the best clinical teachers I have met in my life and the most loyal graduate of the BU unit. We often disagreed but the respect I felt for him was immense and only strengthened over the years. It was always a treat to see him at the ACR\u201d.\u00a0 <span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span style=\"color: #11256b;\"><em><strong>Juan Canoso<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">I am sure that\u00a0 you will join with me in remembering Burt Sack\u2019s legacy. As most of you know, \u00a0Burt maintained a busy Rheumatology practice in\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Brockton for many years. He was an outstanding<\/span><span>\u200b <\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Rheumatologist and \u00a0a pillar of the Rheumatology community in Massachusetts and\u00a0 New England. He had many friends among RI\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Rheumatologists and visited us frequently for Grand Rounds and Fellows\u2019 Conferences.<\/span><span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Particularly near and dear to Burt\u2019s heart was the Boston University Rheumatology Program of which he was an integral member from the days of\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Alan Cohen, Edgar\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Cathcart<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">, and Bob\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Meenan<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\"> to Joe Korn and Rob Simms. <\/span><span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"6\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Burt was a consummate clinical rheumatologist and superb teacher. His\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">xray<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0rounds were legendary to generations of Rheumatology Fellows (and\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">faculty).\u00a0<\/span><span>\u200b<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">His depth of knowledge was also astounding and he shared this many times during conferences, including Intercity Rounds. He won many\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">teaching awards and was recognized as a Master of the ACR.<\/span><span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Also near and dear to Burt\u2019s heart was the New England Rheumatism Society of which he was a prominent member. He served as President,\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Secretary. and Treasurer.
