{"id":752,"date":"2022-02-24T12:06:18","date_gmt":"2022-02-24T17:06:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/reach4adhd\/?page_id=752"},"modified":"2022-04-18T13:23:53","modified_gmt":"2022-04-18T17:23:53","slug":"start","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/reach4adhd\/research\/start\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>START (<u>S<\/u>uppor<u>T<\/u> for <u>A<\/u>DHD and <u>R<\/u>elated <u>T<\/u>reatment): An ADHD Care Engagement Intervention<\/strong><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Although there are many treatment options for ADHD that improve outcomes, treatment engagement and access remains low, especially among low-income, diverse families.<\/p>\n<p>The START (SupporT for ADHD and Related Treatment) Program is a community health worker-led intervention for families of children with newly diagnosed ADHD.\u00a0 START is a 5-session 6 week program designed to help families better engage with their child&#8217;s ADHD care through knowledge, empowerment, and resources.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment756\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment756\" style=\"width: 273px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/reach4adhd\/files\/2022\/02\/131285075_109032718083474_1757350857527012618_n-e1645723264745-535x636.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"313\" class=\"wp-image-756\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/reach4adhd\/files\/2022\/02\/131285075_109032718083474_1757350857527012618_n-e1645723264745-535x636.jpeg 535w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/reach4adhd\/files\/2022\/02\/131285075_109032718083474_1757350857527012618_n-e1645723264745-861x1024.jpeg 861w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/reach4adhd\/files\/2022\/02\/131285075_109032718083474_1757350857527012618_n-e1645723264745-768x913.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/reach4adhd\/files\/2022\/02\/131285075_109032718083474_1757350857527012618_n-e1645723264745-1292x1536.jpeg 1292w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/reach4adhd\/files\/2022\/02\/131285075_109032718083474_1757350857527012618_n-e1645723264745.jpeg 1520w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment756\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">START 4 Gear Model of ADHD Care<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>During the program, families will learn:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0How ADHD develops in children;<\/li>\n<li>How to navigate ADHD care systems, including managing medications, and connecting with therapy, school services, and community support;<\/li>\n<li>What stressors in their child&#8217;s environment may be impacting their symptoms and treatment outcomes;<\/li>\n<li>Strategies for managing their own stress and mental health, including mindfulness and self-care.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Children will also be invited to join to help families better communicate and understand their diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Parents and their children are eligible to participate in the study if the caregiver is the legal guardian of a child age 6-12 with a current diagnosis of ADHD or ADHD-like symptoms (attention problems, hyperactivity, impulsivity).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>START (SupporT for ADHD and Related Treatment): An ADHD Care Engagement Intervention Although there are many treatment options for ADHD that improve outcomes, treatment engagement and access remains low, especially among low-income, diverse families.
