Members will receive a 40% reduction in both monthly and joining fees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Committee of Intern and Residents (CIR) Membership Dues (or Agency Fee)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>House Officers and fellows are members of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR). Members of CIR pay dues of 1.5% of their net gross salary, deducted weekly. Those house officers who elect to forgo union membership are required (by law) to pay an \u201cagency fee\u201d (also deducted weekly) of 1.45% of their salary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Extra On-Call<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>In certain situations, House Officers are compensated for additional work that they are asked to do. For example, if they are required to work for one of their ill colleagues, they may be entitled to as much as $750 (pay scale reflects the number or additional hours worked).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lab Coats<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Hospital provides all interns, residents, and fellows with three (3) white coats in their first year of training, and two (2) for each successive year of their residency or fellowship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lease Guarantee Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Hospital agrees to act as the Guarantor in the event a House Officer\u2019s landlord requires advance payment of up to two months of rent (security deposit and\/or last month\u2019s payment), as a condition for entering into a lease (up to a maximum of $6,500). The Hospital guarantees payment to the landlord under specified terms, and the House Officer agrees to reimburse for any payment the Hospital is required to make under the Guarantee. Those enrolled in this program do not need to provide landlords with more than 1-month rent (i.e. no first\/last\/security deposit) when signing a lease.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.org\/sites\/default\/files\/For_Medical_Professionals\/Graduate_Medical_Education__GME_\/LeaseGuarantyProcedure.pdf\">Lease Guaranty Procedure<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.org\/sites\/default\/files\/For_Medical_Professionals\/Graduate_Medical_Education__GME_\/Guaranty.pdf\">Guaranty<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.org\/sites\/default\/files\/For_Medical_Professionals\/Graduate_Medical_Education__GME_\/Indemnity_Authorization.pdf\">Indemnity Authorization<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Leaves of Absence\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Disability Insurance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Disability Insurance:<\/strong>\u00a0The Hospital purchases disability coverage for all house officers. This coverage is portable and is administered by the Committee of Interns and Residents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maternity Leave:<\/strong>\u00a0House officers are entitled to up to 12 weeks of unpaid family leave for the birth or care of a child, for the adoption of a child under age eighteen or foster care placement of a child under age eighteen. Unused sick and vacation time can be used for this twelve 12 week leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parental Leave:<\/strong>\u00a0House officers are entitled to two 2 weeks parental leave in order to attend to the birth, adoption, or care of a new child in the employee\u2019s immediate household. Unused sick and vacation time may be used for this leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Family &amp; Medical Leave:<\/strong>\u00a0Eligible persons may be entitled to up to 12 weeks of unpaid medical leave for serious illness or serious illness of said person\u2019s spouse, parent or child pursuant to the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993. All applications for FMLA must comply with the law and the Hospital\u2019s policies and procedures governing such leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Limited Licensing Fee<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Hospital pays for the MA state Limited medical license for all House Officers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meal Allowances<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>House Officers can swipe their ID badges in BMC cafeterias to pay for meals, with costs deducted directly from their paychecks. Note that there is no separate meal allowance; lump sum payments are available for use at the trainee&#8217;s discretion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Parking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The hospital subsidizes several parking programs for house officers. There is also a subsidized MBTA (subway\/bus) program offered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professional Education Allowance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>House Officers can use their lump sum payments at their discretion for educational materials each academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stipend<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each House Officer receives a lump sum payment of $2,250 in July and a lump sum payment of $2,250 in January.\u00a0 The House Officer must be employed on July 15 to receive the July payment and must be employed on January 15 to receive the January payment. The payments will be reduced by any legally required tax deductions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"151\" data-end=\"285\">All house officers have access to a suite of educational resources throughout their training, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"382\" data-end=\"820\">\n<li data-start=\"286\" data-end=\"300\">\n<p data-start=\"288\" data-end=\"300\"><strong data-start=\"288\" data-end=\"298\">STATdx<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"301\" data-end=\"318\">\n<p data-start=\"303\" data-end=\"318\"><strong data-start=\"303\" data-end=\"316\">RadPrimer<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"319\" data-end=\"337\">\n<p data-start=\"321\" data-end=\"337\"><strong data-start=\"321\" data-end=\"335\">CaseStacks<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"338\" data-end=\"355\">\n<p data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"355\"><strong data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"353\">e-Anatomy<\/strong><strong data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"353\"><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"355\"><strong data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"353\"><\/strong><strong data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"403\">Catered lunches<\/strong> are provided during <strong data-start=\"424\" data-end=\"444\">noon conferences<\/strong> each Tuesday and Thursday, as well as at other special events throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"355\">Each <strong data-start=\"537\" data-end=\"555\">PGY-2 resident<\/strong> receives a <strong data-start=\"567\" data-end=\"601\">Patagonia BMC Radiology jacket<\/strong> at the start of residency.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"355\">A <strong data-start=\"635\" data-end=\"657\">$13 meal allowance<\/strong> is provided on Tuesdays and Thursdays while rotating at either VA Boston campus.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"355\"><strong data-start=\"745\" data-end=\"775\">A $20 nightly meal allowance<\/strong> is provided for each Night Float rotation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"822\" data-end=\"934\">These resources and benefits support resident education, wellness, and community building throughout training.<\/p>\n<div class=\"av-subheading av-subheading_below \"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Ride Share Program \u2013 Lyft<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"av-subheading av-subheading_below \">\n<p><span>BMC has created a partnership with Lyft, the ride-sharing company. Any use of a personal day is subject to prior program approval.
