Approximately half of the conferences are didactic lectures, and the other half are case-based presentations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"484\" data-end=\"785\">The curriculum is organized in a \u201cblock\u201d schedule, with each subspecialty presenting for one week at a time, allowing residents to focus their learning. \u201cMini-courses\u201d in the radiologic domains recognized by the ABR form the framework of the conference curriculum. These domains include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"787\" data-end=\"962\">\n<li data-start=\"787\" data-end=\"797\">\n<p data-start=\"789\" data-end=\"797\">Breast<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"798\" data-end=\"816\">\n<p data-start=\"800\" data-end=\"816\">Cardiovascular<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"817\" data-end=\"837\">\n<p data-start=\"819\" data-end=\"837\">Gastrointestinal<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"838\" data-end=\"855\">\n<p data-start=\"840\" data-end=\"855\">Genitourinary<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"874\">\n<p data-start=\"858\" data-end=\"874\">Interventional<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"875\" data-end=\"894\">\n<p data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"894\">Musculoskeletal<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"895\" data-end=\"913\">\n<p data-start=\"897\" data-end=\"913\">Neuroradiology<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"914\" data-end=\"934\">\n<p data-start=\"916\" data-end=\"934\">Nuclear Medicine<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"949\">\n<p data-start=\"937\" data-end=\"949\">Pediatrics<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"950\" data-end=\"962\">\n<p data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"962\">Thoracic<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"1202\">An additional non-interpretive curriculum covers topics such as education, research, leadership, quality improvement, patient safety, health equity, and wellness. Residents are expected to give one lecture per academic year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1542\">During case conferences, residents actively participate by interpreting and discussing unknown cases under the guidance of faculty or co-residents, developing skills in observation, synthesis, differential diagnosis, and management planning. Residents rotating at BVAMC participate in BMC conferences via teleconferencing.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1544\" data-end=\"1547\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"1549\" data-end=\"1747\"><strong data-start=\"1549\" data-end=\"1583\">Introductory Conference Series<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1549\" data-end=\"1747\">First-year residents attend a series of introductory lectures during July and August, providing foundational knowledge and orientation to the department.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1749\" data-end=\"1752\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"1754\" data-end=\"1965\"><strong data-start=\"1754\" data-end=\"1792\">Core &amp; Non-Interpretive Curriculum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1754\" data-end=\"1965\">Beyond mini-courses, the curriculum includes additional essential topics, such as journal club and monthly departmental Morbidity &amp; Mortality (M+M) conferences.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1967\" data-end=\"1970\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"2312\"><strong data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"2001\">Departmental Grand Rounds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"2312\">Radiology Grand Rounds are held monthly from September through May. Local, national, and international speakers present on timely topics and often provide additional case-based sessions for residents. Speakers are selected by the Education Committee and invited by the Co-Chief Residents.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2314\" data-end=\"2317\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"2319\" data-end=\"2500\"><strong data-start=\"2319\" data-end=\"2350\">Radiology Physics Education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2319\" data-end=\"2500\">A dedicated physics course runs throughout the academic year for all residents, taught by the department\u2019s medical physicist. Topics include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2502\" data-end=\"2651\">\n<li data-start=\"2502\" data-end=\"2550\">\n<p data-start=\"2504\" data-end=\"2550\">Introduction to imaging and associated risks<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2551\" data-end=\"2572\">\n<p data-start=\"2553\" data-end=\"2572\">Radiation biology<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2573\" data-end=\"2651\">\n<p data-start=\"2575\" data-end=\"2651\">MR, CT, mammography, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and radiography physics<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2653\" data-end=\"2711\">By the end of the first year, residents complete an online radiation safety training module and participate in a hands-on radiation safety lab during orientation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2927\" data-end=\"2966\">Additional physics training includes:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2967\" data-end=\"3577\">\n<li data-start=\"2967\" data-end=\"3127\">\n<p data-start=\"2969\" data-end=\"3127\">Foundations of Physics Program (Telerad Physics Teaching): a 12-week course with weekly live interactive lectures supplementing departmental instruction<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3128\" data-end=\"3307\">\n<p data-start=\"3130\" data-end=\"3307\">ABR Core Exam Physics Program: a 4-day live online review for third-year residents covering radiation safety, MR, CT, mammography, nuclear medicine, and ultrasound physics<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3308\" data-end=\"3577\">\n<p data-start=\"3310\" data-end=\"3577\">Radioisotope Practicum: a 10-hour hands-on course on radiation signage, written directives, handling of radioactive materials, response to spills and accidents, and quality control of clinical radionuclide doses, directed by a board-certified health physicist<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conferences and Educational Curriculum Daily Teaching Conferences At BMC, two 45-minute teaching conferences are held daily from 12:00 \u2013 1:30 PM, providing a structured and balanced learning experience.
