Residents manage consultations, triage, preliminary interpretations, and dictation of all imaging studies. Attending radiologists play a secondary role, providing real-time review and feedback, fostering resident autonomy and independence in clinical decision-making.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"672\" data-end=\"687\">Night Float<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"952\">The Night Float rotation lasts one week and takes place in the Body Reading Room of the Dowling Building, from Saturday through Friday. Each resident typically completes 10\u201311 weeks of Night Float, beginning in the fall of their second year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"954\" data-end=\"989\">Two residents cover night shifts:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"990\" data-end=\"1078\">\n<li data-start=\"990\" data-end=\"1034\">\n<p data-start=\"992\" data-end=\"1034\">Early Night Float: 5:00 PM \u2013 4:00 AM<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1035\" data-end=\"1078\">\n<p data-start=\"1037\" data-end=\"1078\">Late Night Float: 9:00 PM \u2013 7:00 AM<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1080\" data-end=\"1288\">A $20 nightly meal delivery voucher is provided to each night float resident. This rotation provides intensive experience in managing urgent imaging studies and gaining independent decision-making skills.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1295\" data-end=\"1311\">Weekend Call<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1313\" data-end=\"1399\">On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, two resident call shifts cover the service:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1400\" data-end=\"1452\">\n<li data-start=\"1400\" data-end=\"1425\">\n<p data-start=\"1402\" data-end=\"1425\">8:00 AM \u2013 5:00 PM<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1452\">\n<p data-start=\"1428\" data-end=\"1452\">11:00 AM \u2013 9:00 PM<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1454\" data-end=\"1716\">Duties include interpreting and dictating emergency, trauma, and inpatient studies, as well as coordinating special procedures. This schedule provides extensive exposure to the radiologic evaluation and management of acutely ill and traumatized patients.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 data-start=\"672\" data-end=\"687\">Emergency Radiology Rotation<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"952\">One resident rotates in Emergency Radiology from Monday through Friday, 12:00 PM \u2013 9:00 PM, beginning their clinical duties after noon conference. The resident focuses primarily on stat ED cases until 5:00 PM and then works alongside the early night float resident starting at 5:00 PM, gaining exposure to both emergency and evening workflow.<\/p>\n<div class=\"avia_textblock \" itemprop=\"text\">\n<h3 data-start=\"1723\" data-end=\"1767\">VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) Call<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1769\" data-end=\"2016\">Residents on call at BMC provide preliminary interpretations for off-hours plain film studies performed at VABHS via the teleradiology system. Cross-sectional imaging at the VA is covered separately by the VA teleradiology service.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2023\" data-end=\"2069\">Vascular and Interventional Radiology Call<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2071\" data-end=\"2257\">Three to four residents and fellows rotate through Interventional Radiology, alternating carrying the on-call pager, typically 2\u20133 times per week. Responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2258\" data-end=\"2434\">\n<li data-start=\"2258\" data-end=\"2299\">\n<p data-start=\"2260\" data-end=\"2299\">Evaluating special procedure requests<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2300\" data-end=\"2343\">\n<p data-start=\"2302\" data-end=\"2343\">Consulting with the faculty radiologist<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2344\" data-end=\"2434\">\n<p data-start=\"2346\" data-end=\"2434\">Performing off-hours vascular and interventional cases under attending supervision<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"2441\" data-end=\"2455\">Buddy Call<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2457\" data-end=\"2676\">First-year residents begin exposure to evening call on a buddy system late in their first year.
