The Pulmonary Center provides training through a T32 program that has been continuously funded by the NIH for 50 years, Biology of the Lung: A Multidisciplinary Program (NIH T32 HL007035). The T32 program was initiated by Jerry Brody, MD, Gordon Snider, MD, and Carl Franzblau, PhD, in 1975. It was directed by David M. Center, MD, for years, before he was joined by Joseph P. Mizgerd, ScD as MPIs for a decade. Currently, for years 45-50, leadership is provided by MPIs Joseph P. Mizgerd, ScD, and Darrell N. Kotton, MD. Training is provided for basic, translational, and clinical scientists in lung biology and pulmonary disease. Major emphases are pulmonary immunity and respiratory infection, lung development and regenerative medicine, and biomedical data sciences which includes computational and systems biology, epidemiology, health services research, and implementation science. Training is provided for PhD students (predoctoral), PhD postdocs, and MDs in sub-specialty fellowships including but not limited to Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine as well as Allergy and Immunology.<\/p>\n
