Our research seeks to improve processes and outcomes of critical care by using advanced epidemiologic, econometric, and biostatistics methods to draw inferences with direct clinical relevance. Our NIH-funded work covers: epidemiology and management of cardiovascular complications of sepsis, management of analgesia and sedation during mechanical ventilation, approaches to vasopressor and steroid use in patients with septic shock, institutional compliance with guideline-recommended respiratory failure management, and outcomes of long-term feeding and breathing tubes placed during critical illness, among many other topics.

Co-Directors

 Anica Law, MD, MSc

Anica Law is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University. She is a critical care physician, health services researcher, and principal investigator on an NIH/NHLBI-funded K23; she also receives support from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the BU Department of Medicine Career Investment Award. Using large databases and leveraging natural experiments where feasible, she seeks to understand the determinants of outcomes after critical illness in order to better inform decision-making during critical illness and the optimal delivery of care after acute critical illness. Her work has been referenced in media outlets including NPR, US News and World Report, and the Associated Press and has achieved Altmetric Attention Scores in the 99th percentile. She serves on the Editorial Board of the Annals of the American Thoracic Society, participates in the NIH Early Career Reviewer Program, and is Chair of the Critical Care Assembly’s Planning Committee within the American Thoracic Society.

Publications

Published on 6/1/2022 Bosch NA, Law AC, Rucci JM, Peterson D, Walkey AJ.
