This year\u2019s theme was \u201cFrom Across the World to Your Office: Integration of Diversity and Multiculturalism in Research, Education, Clinical Practice, and Organizational Policy.\u201d\u00a0 Key speakers included our own, BU Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the VA National LGBT Health Program,\u00a0<\/span><strong>Jillian Shipherd, PhD<\/strong><span>\u00a0who spoke about Transgender Veteran Care and BU Assistant Professor of Psychiatry,\u00a0<\/span><strong>Lisa Fortuna, MD<\/strong><span>\u00a0who discussed\u00a0\u201cA Socioecological Stress Model for Research and Clinical Effectiveness in Working with Refugee Immigrant Communities.\u201d\u00a0 Also featured were\u00a0<\/span><strong>John Pachankis, PhD<\/strong><span>, speaking on, \u201cThe Epidemic of LGBT Depression and the Surprising Science of the Closet,\u201d and\u00a0<\/span><strong>Karen Suyemoto, PhD<\/strong><span>, \u201cFostering Mental Health by Promoting Social Justice and Resisting Racism.\u201d\u00a0 In addition, concurrent breakout sessions were offered by BU faculty and VA professional staff members including:\u00a0<\/span><strong>Christina Borba, PhD, Scott Litwack, PhD, Rafael Ortega, MD, Colleen Sloan, PhD, Tejas Srinivas, MA,<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>and\u00a0<\/span><strong>Julie Weismoore, PhD<\/strong><span>.\u00a0 Over one hundred\u00a0VA Boston HCS psychology staff and trainees were in attendance for this extremely informative and successful day.
