{"id":3740,"date":"2017-08-25T02:03:21","date_gmt":"2017-08-25T06:03:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/psychiatry\/?page_id=3740"},"modified":"2025-08-25T11:00:36","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T15:00:36","slug":"integrated-behavioral-health","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/psychiatry\/clinical-services\/integrated-behavioral-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Integrated Behavioral Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/psychiatry\/files\/2017\/10\/Staff-Dinner-Clinical-Staff-1-568x300.jpg\" alt=\"Staff Dinner Clinical Staff\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4555\" width=\"800\" height=\"300\" \/><br \/>\nBMC Psychiatry collaborates with primary and specialty care clinics to provide mental health services and support.\u00a0 Psychiatrists, nurse practitioners psychologists, and social workers are collocated within these clinics and collaborate with primary and specialty care providers to meet the patients\u2019 behavioral health needs.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the major tenets of our Integrated Behavioral Health program.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Evaluation: <\/strong>Psychiatric clinicians provide an evaluation and assessment of patients with mental health needs to help develop a treatment plan.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Short-term treatment: <\/strong>Embedded clinicians provide short-term therapy and psychopharmacology within the primary care or specialty clinic to provide immediate access to appropriate treatment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Referral to Psychiatry: <\/strong>For patients requiring ongoing treatment, the embedded teams provide ongoing access to support to bridge the patient through the process of getting established for long-term outpatient services in the Department of Psychiatry.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Provider Support and Consultation: <\/strong>Embedded providers provide education and training for primary and specialty care providers to increase their comfort in helping manage a patient\u2019s behavioral health needs. Psychiatric clinicians also provide consultation in determining appropriate care plans for patients with complex problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>BMC clinics with embedded psychiatric providers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General Internal Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Family Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Pediatrics<\/li>\n<li>Geriatrics<\/li>\n<li>Infectious Disease<\/li>\n<li>OBGYN with the Center for Mother\/Child Wellness<\/li>\n<li>Transplant<\/li>\n<li>Transgender Clinic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Currently, Integrated Behavorial Health is starting a new program that is embedded into local community organizations to provide the populations they serve access to virtual care.
