Dr. Valentine completed her predoctoral internship in Behavioral Medicine and postdoctoral research fellows in Implementation Science in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital\/Harvard Medical School (2013-2016). Dr. Valentines came to BMC&#8217;s Department of Psychiatry in 2016 to establish a clinical research program aimed at improving the quality of mental health care for diverse and underserved populations. Dr. Valentine has extensive experience in the tailoring and implementation of evidence-based treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder with minoritized populations, including racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants and refugees, and sexual orientation and gender minoritized populations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/psychiatry\/profile\/sarah-valentine-ph-d\/\">BMC Profile<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 |\u00a0 \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.bu.edu\/Sarah.Valentine\">BU Profile<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/prismm\/files\/2023\/04\/Nuha_headshot-426x636.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"339\" class=\"wp-image-373 alignleft\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/prismm\/files\/2023\/04\/Nuha_headshot-426x636.jpeg 426w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/prismm\/files\/2023\/04\/Nuha_headshot-686x1024.jpeg 686w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/prismm\/files\/2023\/04\/Nuha_headshot.jpeg 747w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nuha Alshabani, PhD <\/strong>|\u00a0<em>Postdoctoral Fellow<\/em>\u00a0|\u00a0<em>she\/her\/hers<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span>Dr. Nuha Alshabani is <\/span><span>the Trauma in Context Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Boston Medical Center (BMC) specializing in culturally responsive and trauma-focused research, treatments, and assessments with patients of marginalized backgrounds (e.g., low-income, immigrants, refugees, people of color). She\u00a0completed her PhD in Counseling Psychology from The University of Akron (2012) and her predoctoral internship in Health Service Psychology at Denver Health Medical Center (2021-2022). Dr. Alshabani\u2019s research focuses on (a) associations between identity, discrimination, and mental health (b) identity-based stress and trauma, as well as (c) culturally responsive\u00a0<\/span>intervention and treatment for marginalized communities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/prismm\/files\/2022\/11\/Laura-Godfrey-Senior-Portrait-002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"259\" class=\"wp-image-329 alignleft\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Laura Godfrey, BS<\/strong> | Research Assistant | she\/her\/hers<\/p>\n<p>As PRISMM&#8217;s Research Assistant, Laura supports several ongoing projects in the lab. Laura graduated from Northeastern University in 2021 with a BS in Behavioral Neuroscience and minor in Human Services. As an undergraduate student, Laura completed a 6 month co-op at Boston Medical Center as a Research Assistant on the Kids FACE FEARS Study. She is <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW179085732 BCX0\">currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Northeastern University, where she studies Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. Julia has previous experience working as a Research Assistant in <\/span><span class=\"SpellingError SCXW179085732 BCX0\">Northeastern\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW179085732 BCX0\">\u00a0Social Emotions Lab run by Dr. David\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"SpellingError SCXW179085732 BCX0\">DeSteno<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW179085732 BCX0\">. Her research interests include making mental health care more equitable and accessible to individuals of all backgrounds, and she would like to pursue forensic\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentStart CommentHighlightPipeRest CommentHighlightRest SCXW179085732 BCX0\">psychology in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>PRISMM Alumni<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ash M. Smith, BSc <em>| they\/them\/theirs<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ash worked as a research coordinator with PRISMM from July 2018 to July 2020. They are now a doctoral student in the Health Psychology and Clinical Science program at the City University of New York, conducting research in the Gender-Based Violence Lab. They received a Bachelor&#8217;s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, in 2018. Ash is interested in qualitatively and quantitatively characterizing the role of pride and shame in relationships between minority stress, suicidality, and transdiagnostic behavioral health distress for sexual and gender minority communities. They are passionate about leveraging community-based participatory approaches to develop and adapt interventions that target minority stress and meet the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals.
