{"id":9216,"date":"2013-12-04T14:30:59","date_gmt":"2013-12-04T19:30:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/ppb\/?p=9216"},"modified":"2022-06-06T13:37:01","modified_gmt":"2022-06-06T17:37:01","slug":"dr-benjamin-wolozin-receives-alzheimers-association-zenith-fellows-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/ppb\/2013\/12\/04\/dr-benjamin-wolozin-receives-alzheimers-association-zenith-fellows-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Benjamin Wolozin Receives Alzheimer&#8217;s Association Zenith Fellows Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/ppb\/files\/2013\/12\/wolozin_20061.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/ppb\/files\/2013\/12\/wolozin_20061-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"wolozin_2006\" title=\"wolozin_2006\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-9218 alignleft\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><strong>From the Office of the Dean:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am pleased to share that <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/ppb\/people\/faculty\/faculty-profiles\/wolozin\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Benjamin Wolozin, MD, PhD<\/a>, Professor, Pharmacology and Neurology, was awarded the Alzheimer&#8217;s\u00a0Association Zenith Fellows Award. \u00a0Initiated in 1991, the award provides support for cutting edge basic science or biomedical research that addresses fundamental problems related to early detection, etiology pathogenesis, treatment and\/or prevention of Alzheimer\u2019s disease (AD).\u00a0The award is valued at $450,000, which will be dispersed over three years.<\/p>\n<p>The Wolozin Lab won the award with its proposal \u201cIt Takes TIA to Tangle: The Role of RNA Binding Proteins in AD.\u201d The laboratory already has discovered a RNA binding protein that induces tau misfolding, one of the essential steps that leads to cognitive loss in AD.
