The Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biophysics Department (PP&B) hosts an Annual Summer Workshop for Medical and Master\u2019s, and undergraduate students as part of our departmental outreach efforts. The five week workshop is held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:00am from July 14 to August 13, 2026.<\/p>\n

The workshop includes 5 components:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Methods in Pharmacological Sciences<\/strong>: A series of lectures from PP&B and Clinical faculty focusing on novel methodologies used for diagnostic, research or therapeutics development. This course is offered for 5 weeks.<\/li>\n
  2. Journal Club<\/strong>: The Journal Club discussions are based on recent publications by department faculty. The goal of the Journal Club is to provide students with an overview of recent research methodologies used in drug discovery and therapeutics. In addition, the Journal Club sessions serve to introduce visiting students to the ongoing research projects in which they will be involved.<\/li>\n
  3. Meet the Scientist<\/strong>: In these sessions, faculty share with students their path through academia, barriers they may have encountered, and what has helped them succeed or defined their trajectory as a scientist or physician-scientist. These are informal 30-minute presentations followed by a 20-minute Q&A session.<\/li>\n
  4. Postdoc and student Seminars<\/strong>: Lunch time science presentations by PP&B trainees. This is an opportunity for networking and for workshop participants to interact with researchers from various fields.<\/li>\n
  5. Research internship for eligible* students<\/strong>: workshop participants are assigned to research labs for 4-6 weeks. The internship involves training in a basic science technique, data analysis, participation in lab meetings. (Undergraduate Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    High school students<\/strong> are also welcome to participate in the Lectures, Journal Club, and Meet the Scientist sessions, as well as selected demonstrations of scientific equipment.<\/p>\n

    Workshop Registration fee: $350

    *Research lab placement depends on student qualifications and space availability in department labs.<\/p>\n
