Dr. Nikolajczyk is an experienced Molecular Immunologist who has been leading analysis of immune systems changes in obesity and type 2 diabetes patients and DIO mice for the past 5 years. She has led the teams that published the first detailed work showing B cells and T cells from T2D patient blood are pro-inflammatory thus are consistent with murine studies published at about the same time. She has recently published a manuscript detailing the role B cells play in T cell regulation during T2D thus is well versed in analysis of white blood cells. Dr. Nikolajczyk’s established molecular expertise coupled with her more recent experience with metabolic research brings a unique perspective to the analysis of obesity and type 2 diabetes, and how those changes might be exploited to find a cure.
