A student is considered independent for purposes of awarding federal financial aid and parent information is not included on the FAFSA.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible for federal aid, you must be enrolled with six or more credits in your degree program or be certified as a full-time student. BT courses or courses that are not degree requirements will not count towards the minimum six credit requirement for federal financial aid.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Specific Program Application Consideration<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Incoming Oral Health Sciences (OHS)\u00a0 students<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 Application Requirements will apply financial aid towards all of your enrollment, including the classes that begin in August 2025. Submit your application documents as early as you can, in order to ensure timely disbursement of financial aid to your account.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Physician Assistant class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Social Security Numbers and Your Application<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Your Social Security Number (SSN) is <strong>required<\/strong> in order for Boston University to receive your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).<\/p>\n<p>When completing the <span>BU-GMS CAS or CASPA<\/span> for admission to GMS, we <strong>strongly encourage<\/strong> you to include your Social Security Number when you apply.<\/p>\n<p>You can also follow the instructions below to provide your SSN to SFS directly.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Complete the secure<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/phpbin\/onbase\/?form=ofa_ss_reporting\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Social Security Number Reporting form<\/a><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>to provide your SSN electronically (requires BU login name and password)<\/li>\n<li>For newly admitted students who may not have a BU login name and password you may need to wait until you receive your account information from your school<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>The SSN not provided on the <span>BU-GMS CAS or CASPA <\/span>will result in potentially significant delays in the review of your financial aid &#8220;Summer Loan Request&#8221; to apply for the unsubsidized loan for summer.<\/li>\n<li>Assesses eligibility for need-based institutional loans and federal loan aid based on your program.<\/li>\n<li>No parental income information will be requested for your application.<\/li>\n<li>The FAFSA must be completed before you submit the application.<\/li>\n<li>If applying for a PLUS Loan complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/plus-app\/grad\/landing\">2026 PLUS Loan<\/a> application\n<ul>\n<li>Please select the Summer 2026 dates on your PLUS Loan application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Be advised: any Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans you receive in Summer 2026 may reduce your 2026-2027 academic year eligibility, dollar for dollar.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Changes in Registration<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Changes in your registration could significantly impact your eligibility for financial aid.<\/p>\n<p>Contact Student Financial Support if you have any of the following changes to your registration:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changing from full-time to part-time registration<\/li>\n<li>Changing from part-time to full-time registration<\/li>\n<li>Changing the number of credits taken when registered for less than 12 credits (e.g. changing from 8 credits to 4 credits)<\/li>\n<li>Planning on taking a Leave of Absence or withdrawing from BU<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Failure to contact SFS timely could result in adjustments to your financial aid late in the semester, <strong>which could result in<\/strong> <strong>balances, and possible holds on your student account<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Certified Full-Time Process<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Students request Certified Full-Time (CFT) status in order to receive federal financial aid during a period of enrollment below the 6 credit threshold. The following steps must be completed before any financial aid requests can be completed:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Discuss with your academic advisor about your CFT-eligibility<\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions to submit the Certified Full-Time Form on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/academics\/student-forms\/\">GMS Student Forms page<\/a>. Please note you must complete a separate form for each term in which you wish to be considered CFT.<\/li>\n<li>Receive confirmation from the GMS Registrar that your CFT request has been approved<\/li>\n<li>Contact Student Financial Support at <a href=\"mailto:osfs-gms@bu.edu\">osfs-gms@bu.edu<\/a> that your CFT request has been approved<\/li>\n<li>To be considered for federal financial aid in the summer students must be CFT for both Summer 1 and Summer 2 sessions. You will need to submit two CFT forms to the GMS Registrar.<\/li>\n<li>Continuing Students who meet financial aid and CFT requirements for summer may submit a CFT form for summer 2 and select the 3rd registration box:\n<p class=\"xxmsonormal\">**C1-Session \u2013 Summer 2, only.\u00a0 You must register for the upcoming fall term prior to submitting form. Continuing tuition fee equal to two units.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Deadlines<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>You must complete your financial aid application at least one month prior to the bill deadline in order to ensure that your financial aid is shown on your bill and to avoid late fee charges.
