{"id":845,"date":"2017-03-21T12:21:19","date_gmt":"2017-03-21T16:21:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/ohra\/?page_id=845"},"modified":"2026-05-01T14:21:56","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T18:21:56","slug":"instructions-for-taking-bmcbu-medical-campus-citi-courses-for-gcp-training","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/ohra\/instructions-for-taking-bmcbu-medical-campus-citi-courses-for-gcp-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Instructions for taking BMC\/BU Medical Campus CITI Courses For GCP Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"#one\">I am registering to CITI for the first time<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b><b><a href=\"#two\">I am already registered to CITI under Boston University Medical Campus\/Boston Medical Center<\/a><\/b><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b><b><a href=\"#three\">I am already registered to CITI under a different institution other than Boston University Medical Campus\/Boston Medical Center<\/a><\/b><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><b><b><br style=\"clear: both;\" \/><br style=\"clear: both;\" \/><\/b><\/b><a name=\"one\" class=\"offset\" id=\"one\"><\/a><b>I am registering to CITI for the first time<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Navigate to: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citiprogram.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.citiprogram.org\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>To register for the first time, click on the \u201cRegister\u201d button.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the registration form: Please note these important steps:\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>In Step 1, in the \u201cSelect Your Organization Affiliation\u201d field, type in the word \u201cBoston\u201d and all institutions with \u201cBoston\u201d in their name will be displayed in the drop down list; select \u201cBoston University Medical Campus\/Boston Medical Center\u201d (make sure you don\u2019t select \u201cBoston University\u201d which is for the Charles River Campus). You need to agree to the terms of service to continue, so click on the check box next to \u201cI AGREE to the Terms of Service\u201d. Next, you need to affirm your affiliation with our institution, so click on the check box next to \u201cI affirm that I am an affiliate of Boston University Medical Campus\/Boston Medical Center.\u201d Click on the \u201cContinue To Create Your CITI Program Username\/Password\u201d button to continue.<\/li>\n<li>In Step 2 \u201cPersonal information\u201d, for the primary email address, enter your BU email address (@bu.edu) if you have one; otherwise, enter your preferred email.<\/li>\n<li>In step 6, for the Institutional Email Address, enter your BU email address (@bu.edu) if you have one; otherwise, enter your preferred email.<\/li>\n<li>In step 7 question 3, select <strong>\u201cGood Clinical Practice (GCP) \u2013 Biomedical Research Focus \u201d or \u201cGood Clinical Practice (GCP) \u2013 Social and Behavioral Research Focus\u201d<\/strong>, whichever is better aligned with your type of research.<\/li>\n<li>In step 7, you can select at this time any additional courses of interest [e.g., Human Subjects Protection Training, BUMC HIPAA and Research Data Security].<\/li>\n<li>When you\u2019re done filling out the form, click on \u201cComplete Registration\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Click on \u201cFinalize Registration\u201d. This will finalize the registration and take you to the Welcome screen of your CITI account.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Next to \u201cBoston University Medical Campus\/Boston Medical Center Courses\u201d, click on the \u201cView Courses\u201d button to show the available courses.<\/li>\n<li>Locate the \u201cCITI Good Clinical Practice\u00a0Course\u201d and click on the \u201cStart Now\u201d button to take that course (note: this button will later change to \u201cContinue Course\u201d).<\/li>\n<li>If this is the first time you are visiting this page, then you need to click on \u201cComplete the Integrity Assurance Statement before beginning the course\u201d; select \u201cI agree\u2026\u201d; and then click \u201cSubmit\u201d. If you have already done this, skip this step.<\/li>\n<li>You should notice that the \u201cStart\u201d button for the first module listed under \u201cRequired Modules\u201d is clickable now. Click on \u201cStart\u201d button to start reading it and taking the quiz.<\/li>\n<li>As soon as one module is completed, the next module (if there is one) will be available and the \u201cStart\u201d button for that module becomes clickable.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once you pass a course, the system will email your certificate to the IRB on the next morning. There is no need for you to send the IRB a copy of your certificate unless specifically requested to do so by the IRB. Your CITI training information will automatically be uploaded the next morning directly into the IRB&#8217;s INSPIR system and into your INSPIR account if you already have one.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b><a name=\"two\" class=\"offset\" id=\"two\"><\/a>I am already registered to CITI under Boston University Medical Center<\/b><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Navigate to: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citiprogram.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.citiprogram.org\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Click on the \u201cLog In\u201d button and log in into your existing CITI account using the username and password you previously registered with. This should take you to the Welcome screen of your CITI account.<\/li>\n<li>Next to \u201cBoston University Medical Campus\/Boston Medical Center\u201d, click on the \u201cView Courses\u201d button.<\/li>\n<li>This will take you to the \u201cShow Courses\u201d page that will list all \u201cBoston University Medical Campus\/Boston Medical Center\u201d courses that you have added to your list of courses. If the course(s) that you want to take are listed here, skip to step 7.<\/li>\n<li>If the course(s) that you want to take are not listed here, then:\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>Scroll down to the \u201cLearner Tool\u201d section and click on \u201cAdd a Course\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>In question 3, select \u201cGood Clinical Practice (GCP) \u2013 Biomedical Research Focus \u201d or \u201cGood Clinical Practice (GCP) \u2013 Social and Behavioral Research Focus\u201d, whichever is better aligned with your type of research.<\/li>\n<li>You can select at this time any other courses of interest [e.g., Human Subjects Protection Training, BUMC HIPAA and Research Data Security].
