At Boston Medical Center\u2019s Labor and Delivery Unit, Midwives, Family Medicine Physicians and Obstetricians work collaboratively to serve all of our patients in a safe, respectful, evidence based manner.\u00a0 At BMC, we pride ourselves in excellence in interdisciplinary communication . A provider from each of the three services staffs labor and delivery 24 hours a day. During the week days, a midwife also covers our triage unit and sees many of the post partum patients.\u00a0 As a teaching hospital, midwives supervise and mentor OB and Family Medicine first year residents, and we help train the senior residents to become our collaborating providers.\u00a0 Midwives at BMC help instill in our residents and students a love and respect for normal birth, and the knowledge of alternative methods of providing comfort in labor, and comfort throughout pregnancy and the post partum period. Nothing makes our midwives happier than watching a resident\u2019s face light up as she attends her first birth in the hands and knees position.<\/p>\n
