Thomas, MS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Educational Background<\/h4>\n<p>Ms. Thomas earned a Bachelor of\u00a0Science in Nursing\u00a0from Boston State College in 1979 and a Master of Science in Nursing\u00a0from Boston University School of Nursing in 1987 as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Neurology and Rehabilitation Nursing.\u00a0She is\u00a0ABNN certified in Neuroscience Nursing. \u00a0She joined the Boston University School of Medicine Department of Neurology in 1984.<\/p>\n<h4>Clinical Care<\/h4>\n<p>Ms. Thomas has worked extensively with individuals with Parkinson\u2019s disease and their families.\u00a0 As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, she has developed programs to assess the impact of Parkinson\u2019s disease on\u00a0 patient\u2019s and families.<\/p>\n<h4>Research<\/h4>\n<p>Her research activities have included participation in over fifty research studies and she is an active member of the Parkinson Study Group (PSG). \u00a0She was a co-investigator in a NIH-NIA study \u201cSelf-Management in Parkinson\u2019s Disease.\u201d \u00a0This work examined the role of exercise and education on quality of life. Positive results of this study have led to the ongoing development of \u201cWellness Exercise Programs\u201d in Massachusetts. \u00a0She is currently a co-investigator in the NIH study \u201cSocial Self-Management in Parkinson\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Community Outreach &amp; Teaching<\/h4>\n<p>As Coordinator of the American Parkinson Disease Association Information and Referral Center, she has participated in over 250 presentations to professional and lay groups.\u00a0 She regularly speaks to support groups and educates health care professionals about PD.\u00a0 She has facilitated local and national conferences for the APDA and American Association of Neuroscience Nurses. She is the Site-Director of the PDF Edmond J. Safra Visiting Nurse Faculty Program.<\/p>\n<h4>Professional Affiliations<\/h4>\n<p>Ms. Thomas is a member of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, Movement Disorders Society,\u00a0 and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.<\/p>\n<h4>Awards<\/h4>\n<p>Ms. Thomas is the recipient of the Salvatore A.
