Warren had a passion for the glycosciences and a deep appreciation that discerning, understanding and exploiting the link between glycan structures and functions requires the development of analytical methods that can elucidate and discriminate among elaborate designs and glycoinformatics tools that can manage the massive data sets. The Charles Warren workshop is convened biennially to honor his memory by bringing together leaders of the worldwide community of glycobiologists, analytical biochemists, instrumentalists, and informatics experts to discuss recent progress, share ideas to address present and future needs in the field, and welcome newcomers and students to join the enterprise. To encourage communication, registration for the Workshop will be limited to 125 participants. Boston University Center for Biomedical Mass Spectrometry is pleased to host the 2018 Warren Workshop and the series of related meetings and workshops that will immediately precede the 256th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, also in Boston, where a linked symposium on the Structure and Function of Glycans will be featured.

This year’s workshop will be held on the Boston University Charles River Campus during August 15-18, 2018. It will include lectures and workshops on glycan analysis and profiling, new tools for structural determinations of glycans and glycoconjugates, glycobiology within and outside the cells of humans, animals and microorganisms, plant glycomics, and glycoinformatics. Pre-workshop sessions will include the annual meeting of investigators in the NIH-supported GlyGen project that is based at the University of Georgia, as well as the MIRAGE team, which is developing guidelines for the publication of glycomics data, with sponsorship from the Beilstein Institute.

Warren Workshop Week is being organized by Profs. Catherine E.
