During the week-long program, students participated in a various experiential learning activities on the medical campus to learn more about careers in medicine and to gain exposure to different aspects of health care.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The students visited the operating room (OR) at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.org\/\">Boston Medical Center<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/profile\/kenneth-grundfast\/\">Dr. Ken Grundfast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1953\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They studied the anatomy of the brain with PhD students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/anatneuro\/\">Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1954\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm2.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm2-636x477.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The students also visited the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/neidl\/\">National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL)<\/a> where they did mini-experiments using ELISA techniques and creating viral structures with candy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1955\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm3.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm3-636x477.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1956\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm4.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/icm4-636x477.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The third session of Boston University School of Medicine&#8217;s Introduction to Careers in Medicine (BU-ICM) took place this summer with 17 high-school students from local private schools throughout Massachusetts.
