{"id":1943,"date":"2019-08-12T14:40:46","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T18:40:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/?p=1943"},"modified":"2019-08-12T15:07:41","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T19:07:41","slug":"bahec-and-beams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/2019\/08\/12\/bahec-and-beams\/","title":{"rendered":"BAHEC and BEAMS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the third summer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/\">Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC)<\/a> partnered with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bphc.org\/whatwedo\/Teens\/boston-area-health-education-center\/Pages\/bahec.aspx\">Boston Area Health Education Center (BAHEC)<\/a> to bring the summer programming of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/training\/beams\/\">Boston Education, Advising &amp; Mentoring in STEM (BEAMS) Program<\/a>, which provides learning experiences for Boston-area high-school students in order to offer them exposure to various careers in medicine and health care.<\/p>\n<p>One new seminar course this summer was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/training\/beams\/beams-exposure-to-research-seminar\/\"><u>Exposure to Research<\/u><\/a>, taught by Taylor Matte, a graduate student at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dbin\/stemcells\/\">Center for Regenerative Medicine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/exposure-to-research.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1944\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/exposure-to-research.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/files\/2019\/08\/exposure-to-research-636x477.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In one of the field placement programs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medsci\/training\/beams\/beams-exposure-to-clinical-careers\/\"><u>Exposure to Clinical Careers<\/u><\/a>, students worked with a variety of clinicians and health-care workers that included surgeons, occupational therapists, genetic counselors, and dental health clinicians.
