BU Library Information for Affiliated Faculty

Upon appointment, all BU Affiliates are granted access to Boston University Alumni Medical Library, which serves Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine faculty, staff, and students. Services provided by the staff of the Alumni Medical Library include research consultations, interlibrary loan, and computer support.

The Reference Desk is staffed by Master of Library and Information Science (MLS) or equivalent degree prepared librarians Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm EST. Reference and research assistance are available via email at refquest@bu.edu or phone at (617) 358-4810.

Students, faculty, and staff may access licensed online resources 24/7 on- or off-campus via the library website (bumc.bu.edu/medlib), using their BU login name and password authentication. Alumni Medical Library collections may be accessed through the BU Libraries Catalog Search, 500+ databases, and 30+ online quality filtered subject guides. Collections consist of 6,800+ e-journals; 12,600+ e-books; 21,000+ books in the circulating, reference, and course reserves stacks; and 29,000+ volumes of bound print journals in medical campus storage.

In addition to the resources of the Alumni Medical Library, medical campus students, faculty, and staff have access to the BU Libraries’ electronic and physical collections. The electronic collection is comprised of 2 million+ e-books, 49,000+ e-media titles, and 111,000+ e-serials and the physical collection is comprised of 1.9 million+ books, 248,000+ serial titles, and 152,000+ media titles.

For your convenience, library staff prepare curated subject guides listing the resources most frequently utilized by patrons researching medical and health-related topics. Library staff also produce a wide variety of video tutorials to guide you in navigating online databases, citation management software, and more.
