Evans Days 2025: Celebrating 40th Annual Evans Days<\/strong><\/p>\n

This October, the Evans Department of Medicine hosted its 40th annual research celebration, continuing a tradition that began in 1985 to showcase the department\u2019s commitment to advancing science and education. Founded in 1912 through the visionary gifts of Maria Antoinette Evans, the department has long integrated research, teaching, and clinical care across Boston Medical Center and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.<\/p>\n

The two-day event featured expanded poster sessions, oral presentations, and distinguished lectures by Dr. Benjamin D. Humphreys and Dr. Jean S. Kutner. With record participation and vibrant discussions, Evans Days reaffirmed the department\u2019s enduring legacy of innovation and collaboration\u2014values that have shaped its mission for more than a century.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dr. Benjamin D. Humphreys<\/strong><\/em> is Chief of the Division of Nephrology at Washington University in St. Louis and the Joseph P. Friedman Professor of Renal Diseases in Medicine, where his research focuses on cellular and molecular mechanisms of kidney injury and repair using advanced single-cell and spatial transcriptomic approaches. He is a dedicated mentor and leader in nephrology, serving on national committees, editorial boards, NIH study sections, and recently as President of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (2023\u201324).<\/p>\n

Dr. Jean S. Kutner<\/strong><\/em> is a tenured Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, board-certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine, with research focused on improving quality of life for patients and caregivers in palliative care. She has held numerous leadership roles, including Head of the Division of General Internal Medicine (2002\u20132014), inaugural Chief Medical Officer of University of Colorado Hospital, and Past-President of both AAHPM and SGIM.<\/p>\n

Dr. Daniel J. Drucker<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is a Canadian endocrinologist. A Fellow of the Royal Society, he is a professor of medicine at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. He is known for his research into intestinal hormones and their use in the treatment of diabetes, obesity, and other metabolic diseases, as well as intestinal failure.<\/p>\n

Dr. Barbara Kahn<\/strong><\/em>, an internationally recognized scientist in the area of obesity and type 2 diabetes, and her lab investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying these conditions, including the regulation of insulin action, food intake, and energy balance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Gbenga Ogedegbe<\/span><\/strong><\/em> is\u00a0a\u00a0leading expert on health disparities research; his work focuses on the implementation of evidence-based interventions for cardiovascular risk reduction in minority populations. He\u00a0is Principal Investigator on numerous NIH projects, and has expanded his work globally to Sub-Saharan Africa where he is funded by the NIH to strengthen research capacity and reduce the burden of noncommunicable diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n
