{"id":800,"date":"2011-12-22T16:37:44","date_gmt":"2011-12-22T21:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/?page_id=800"},"modified":"2025-12-05T11:48:30","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T16:48:30","slug":"blackberry","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/z-retired-pages\/blackberry\/","title":{"rendered":"BlackBerry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"highlight-yellow\">\n<h1>THIS CONTENT IS RETIRED.<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><em><br \/>\nDownload BlackBerry configuration instructions as\u00a0<a href=\"\/it\/files\/2012\/01\/Configuring-your-BlackBerry-Device.docx\">DOCX<\/a> <a href=\"\/it\/files\/2012\/01\/Configuring-your-BlackBerry-Device.pdf\">PDF<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Using BU (802.1x) with the BlackBerry<\/h2>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"\/it\/files\/2011\/12\/blackberry.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1012\" title=\"blackberry\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2011\/12\/blackberry-150x150.png\" alt=\"blackberry\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Instructions for Setup (BlackBerry OS 4.6 and up)<\/h3>\n<h3><strong> <\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>From the home screen click on the\u00a0<strong>Manage Connections<\/strong> icon.<\/li>\n<li>If your Wi-Fi connection is turned off, click on the checkbox next to\u00a0<strong>Wi-Fi<\/strong> to turn it on.<\/li>\n<li>Next, scroll down to\u00a0<strong>Set Up Wi-Fi Network.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Next.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click on\u00a0<strong>Scan for Networks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to\u00a0<strong>BU (802.1x)<\/strong> and click on it.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure Security Type is\u00a0<strong>PEAP.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under user name, type in your\u00a0<strong>BU login name<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Under password, type in you\u00a0<strong>Kerberos<\/strong> password.<\/li>\n<li>Under CA certificate, select\u00a0<strong>Thawte<\/strong> <strong>Premium Server CA.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to\u00a0<strong>Connect<\/strong> and click.<\/li>\n<li>Once you get the Connection Successful screen, press\u00a0<strong>Next<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Finish.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You should now be connected to the BU (802.1x) wireless network.<\/p>\n<h2>Configuring E-mail on your BlackBerry<\/h2>\n<p>A BlackBerry device is able to synchronize your your inbox\/e-mail folders, contacts\/address books, calendars, notes, and tasks.<\/p>\n<h3>Using a BU-owned BlackBerry<\/h3>\n<p>If you are using a BU-provided BlackBerry,<strong> we will order, provision, and setup your device<\/strong> so that when you get the device all services will be working.<\/p>\n<h3>Using your own BlackBerry<\/h3>\n<h4>With IMAP (e-mail only)<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>You can receive your\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/comm\/email\/exchange\/desktop-clients\/using-imap-with-exchange\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BU Exchange e-mail via IMAP<\/a> with the settings below. Note that IMAP access does not provide integration with Exchange Calendar or Contacts.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The incoming IMAP mail server is\u00a0<strong>xmail.bu.edu<\/strong> with\u00a0<strong>SSL (port 993)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The SMTP server is\u00a0<strong>smtp.bu.edu<\/strong> with\u00a0<strong>SSL (port 465)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>With the BU Exchange Server<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>If you are planning to purchase your own personal BlackBerry device but wish to use it with your BU Exchange account, please make sure (through your wireless telecom service provider) that\u00a0<strong>you have the BES unlimited data plan.<\/strong> Once you have verified that,\u00a0<strong>request a wireless activation password<\/strong> from your local computer support person.<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 You will need to\u00a0<strong>wipe the BlackBerry<\/strong> device so that there is no lingering mobile connectivity information on the device. To wipe the device:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expand the menu on your BlackBerry device using the menu button.<\/li>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Options.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Security Options.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>General.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Show the menu on your BlackBerry device by using the menu button.<\/li>\n<li>Press\u00a0<strong>Wipe Handheld.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>You can check\u00a0<strong>Erase Third Party Applications.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Type\u00a0<strong>BlackBerry<\/strong> to start this process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once this is complete, your device will reboot.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Expand the menu on your BlackBerry device using the menu button.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Options.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Date &amp; Time.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Set the correct\u00a0<strong>time zone.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Go back to the\u00a0<strong>main screen.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Once you have received the wireless activation password,<\/strong> you can follow the directions below to activate your device.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Options &gt; Advanced Options &gt; Enterprise Activation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Type in your\u00a0<strong>e-mail address.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Type in the\u00a0<strong>wireless activation password<\/strong> provided to\u00a0 you.<\/li>\n<li>Click on menu and hit\u00a0<strong>Activate.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THIS CONTENT IS RETIRED.
