using the address bumc.bu.edu\/bumc.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Previously,\u00a0\\\\bumc.bu.edu\\bumc was used as an easy-to-remember alternative to \\\\ad.bu.edu\\bumcfiles, or as a workaround for users who were having issues with ad.bu.edu.\u00a0 However, we need to implement a change to resolve an ongoing issue with the Medical Campus website.\u00a0 Before, if you typed &#8220;bumc.bu.edu&#8221;\u00a0 in your browser&#8217;s address bar, it might return an error message that the page could not be found&#8211;you would instead have to type &#8220;www.bumc.bu.edu.&#8221;\u00a0 After the June 30 change, both bumc.bu.edu and www.bumc.bu.edu will work as addresses to the BUMC website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>However, we understand that this may impact users who have relied on bumc.bu.edu as an address to access their resources on the Y drive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/tech\/support\/research\/grants-gov\/mapping-change\/\">(Grants.gov users can click here to learn how to correct their folder mappings.\u00a0 They need to use filesrvs.bumc.bu.edu.)<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>You can correct your mapping before the change is implemented in order to enjoy uninterrupted access to your files and folders.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: in the document below, <strong>ad.bu.edu\\bumcfiles<\/strong> is used as the &#8220;correct&#8221; mapping in all of the examples.\u00a0 If you have issues using ad.bu.edu for whatever reason, you may also use <strong>filesrvs.bumc.bu.edu\\bumc<\/strong> in its place.\u00a0 If you are already using this address, it will also continue to work after the network change occurs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>You can click on any image in this tutorial to see it in full size.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">What is the full path to my drive?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>To map to a folder, you will need its full path.\u00a0 The root directory of the Y drive is located at <strong>ad.bu.edu\/bumcfiles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/y-drive-main.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7081\" alt=\"y drive main\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/y-drive-main-636x329.png\" height=\"233\" width=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/y-drive-main-636x329.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/y-drive-main.png 1016w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You might already know the full path to what you want to map, but if you don&#8217;t, the organization within bumcfiles is fairly straightforward.<\/p>\n<p>BUSM departments are within the BUSM folder, as with SPH and GMS.\u00a0 &#8220;Administration&#8221; contains campus offices not specific to any one school.\u00a0 &#8220;BUMC Projects&#8221; contains special project folders.\u00a0 Some services that work with both Boston University and Boston Medical Center are located in &#8220;Shared Services.&#8221;\u00a0 If in doubt, talk to a department admin about the location of your department&#8217;s resources.<\/p>\n<p>Full paths are formatted in descending folder order, and look different on Macs and PCs.<\/p>\n<p>On a Mac, you&#8217;ll map to your full path using the Samba protocol, or smb, and forward slashes.\u00a0 <em>Example: <strong>smb:\/\/ad.bu.edu\/bumcfiles\/Administration\/Office of Information Technology\/Dept<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>On a PC, you&#8217;ll use backslashes instead, and no need to use smb.\u00a0 <em>Example: <strong>\\\\ad.bu.edu\\bumcfiles\\Administration\\Office of Information Technology\\Dept<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Your personal folder is usually located in the same directory as your Dept folder and is named with your BU login username.\u00a0 <em>Example: <strong>\\\\ad.bu.edu\\bumcfiles\\BUSM\\yourdepartment\\yourBUlogin<\/strong> OR <strong>smb:\/\/ad.bu.edu\/bumcfiles\/SPH\/yourdepartment\/yourBUlogin<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2>How to tell if you are currently using bumc.bu.edu\/bumc to map your network folders<\/h2>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">On a PC<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Go to your Computer window (called &#8220;This PC&#8221; in Windows 8).\u00a0 You can click on Start and then Computer, or simply search for Computer.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7085\" alt=\"PC_bumc1\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc1-636x480.png\" height=\"378\" width=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc1-636x480.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc1.png 1017w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Under &#8220;Network Location(s)&#8221; you will see your mapped drives and their addresses.\u00a0 If your drive is mapped with &#8220;ad.bu.edu&#8221; or &#8220;filesrvs.bumc.bu.edu&#8221; you do not have to do anything&#8211;your drive will continue to work.\u00a0 <strong>However, if it says bumc.bu.edu, you will have to re-map your drive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">On a Mac<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>In Finder, click Go in the menu bar, then go down to Connect to Server.<br \/>\nIf you&#8217;ve been using a &#8220;favorite&#8221; server address to connect to the Y drive, it will be listed here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/Mac_bumc1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7087\" alt=\"Mac_bumc1\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/Mac_bumc1.png\" height=\"282\" width=\"529\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you use a desktop shortcut to access your Y drive files and don&#8217;t have any favorites listed under Connect to Server, we can still find out which path you&#8217;re using.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First, make sure you&#8217;re connected by navigating to one of your Y drive folders using your shortcuts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then, click Go in the Finder menu bar, and Go to Folder.\u00a0 <strong>In the dialog that pops up, type \/Volumes\/ and hit Enter.<\/strong><br \/>\nYou&#8217;ll see a shortcut to your Mac hard drive, as well as a mounted server.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7088\" alt=\"mac_bumc2\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc2-636x290.png\" height=\"290\" width=\"636\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc2-636x290.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc2.png 771w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSelect that server and hit the Command+I keys to open the file info window.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll see the path to your server listed under Server.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/Mac_bumc3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7089\" alt=\"Mac_bumc3\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/Mac_bumc3-245x636.png\" height=\"636\" width=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/Mac_bumc3-245x636.png 245w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/Mac_bumc3.png 264w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If your drive is mapped with &#8220;ad.bu.edu&#8221; or &#8220;filesrvs.bumc.bu.edu&#8221; you do not have to do anything&#8211;your drive will continue to work. <strong>However, if it says bumc.bu.edu, you will have to re-map your drive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2>How to recreate your shortcuts and mappings using the correct address<\/h2>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">On a PC<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>First, right click your old mapping in the Computer window and select &#8220;Disconnect.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7091\" alt=\"PC_bumc2\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc2.png\" height=\"411\" width=\"610\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then, select &#8220;Map network drive&#8221; from the File Explorer window.<br \/>\nType the correct addresses for the folders you want to map.<br \/>\n<em>Examples:<\/em><br \/>\n<em> \\\\bumc.bu.edu\\bumc\\SPH\\yourdepartment\\Dept<\/em><br \/>\n<em> \\\\bumc.bu.edu\\bumc\\SPH\\yourdepartment\\yourBUlogin<\/em><br \/>\n<em> becomes<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><em> \\\\ad.bu.edu\\bumcfiles\\SPH\\yourdepartment\\Dept<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nOR<br \/>\n<strong><em>\\\\filesrvs.bumc.bu.edu\\bumc\\SPH\\yourdepartment\\Dept<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em> \\\\ad.bu.edu\\bumcfiles\\SPH\\yourdepartment\\yourBUlogin<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>OR<br \/>\n<strong><em><strong><em>\\\\filesrvs.bumc.bu.edu\\bumc\\SPH\\yourdepartment\\yourBUlogin<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7092\" alt=\"PC_bumc3\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc3-636x473.png\" height=\"473\" width=\"636\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc3-636x473.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/PC_bumc3.png 993w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When mapping each network drive, select &#8220;reconnect at login&#8221; to save these mapped drives for later use.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re on campus, they should reconnect whenever you are connected to the BU network.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re off-campus, you can resume connection to them once you&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/support\/network\/remote\/vpn\/\" target=\"_blank\">connected to the BUMC VPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">On a Mac<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Go&#8211;&gt;Connect to server<\/strong> window, you can add the correct mappings to your favorites list.\u00a0 First, select your old mapping, and click the Remove button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7093\" alt=\"mac_bumc7\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc7.png\" height=\"281\" width=\"512\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Then type the correct address in the Server Address box instead and click the plus sign.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Examples:<\/em><br \/>\n<em> smb:\/\/bumc.bu.edu\/bumc\/BUSM\/yourdepartment\/Dept<\/em><br \/>\n<em> smb:\/\/bumc.bu.edu\/bumc\/BUSM\/yourdepartment\/yourBUlogin<\/em><br \/>\n<em> becomes<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><em> smb:\/\/ad.bu.edu\/bumcfiles\/BUSM\/yourdepartment\/Dept<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nOR<br \/>\n<strong><em>smb:\/\/filesrvs.bumc.bu.edu\/bumc\/BUSM\/yourdepartment\/Dept<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em> smb:\/\/ad.bu.edu\/bumcfiles\/BUSM\/yourdepartment\/yourBUlogin<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>OR<br \/>\n<strong><em> <strong><em>smb:\/\/filesrvs.bumc.bu.edu\/bumc\/BUSM\/yourdepartment\/yourBUlogin<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you like, you can make sure that your connected servers always display on your desktop in OSX.\u00a0 <strong>Go to Finder&#8211;&gt;Preferences<\/strong> and make sure &#8220;Connected servers&#8221; is checked.\u00a0 This can be an easy way to tell whether you are connected to the Y drive at any given time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc41.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7095\" alt=\"mac_bumc4\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc41.png\" height=\"327\" width=\"361\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To create a shortcut to any server or Y drive folder, simply select it and hold Command and Option while dragging it to the desktop.\u00a0 A small arrow will appear next to the folder or server icon indicating that the copy you are making is an alias.\u00a0 You can use this shortcut to directly access a folder or your server connection from your desktop, without having to navigate to Go&#8211;&gt;Connect to server.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7096\" alt=\"mac_bumc5\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc5.png\" height=\"272\" width=\"318\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7097\" alt=\"mac_bumc6\" src=\"\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc6-636x321.png\" height=\"321\" width=\"636\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc6-636x321.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc6-1024x516.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/files\/2015\/06\/mac_bumc6.png 1045w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re on campus, you can access your folders whenever you are connected to the BU network.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re off-campus, you can resume connection to them once you&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/support\/network\/remote\/vpn\/\" target=\"_blank\">connected to the BUMC VPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some versions of Mac OSX have also had issues with connecting to the Y drive using the ad.bu.edu\/bumcfiles address when using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.<\/strong>\u00a0 You can also set up a Cisco IPSec connection natively in Mac OSX to work around this issue.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/support\/network\/remote\/vpn\/osx\/\" target=\"_blank\">Instructions on how to do this are located here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>If you have any questions or concerns about your server connection, or need help completing any of these steps, please feel free to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/support\/gethelp\/\" target=\"_blank\">submit a ticket<\/a> anytime or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/it\/support\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\">contact us during our business hours<\/a>, 8:30AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On June 30, 2015, users will no longer be able to map to the &#8220;Y Drive&#8221;
