If your computer BU computer is located off campus, or if your computer is not managed by BUMC IT, you may not receive Windows updates regularly as part of our weekly patching.\u00a0 You may also be missing updates if you have a laptop which is powered off at night.\u00a0 We recommend checking for Windows updates and installing them on a weekly basis, as we do with machines that are located on campus.\u00a0\u00a0If you have a BUMC laptop, you should leave it on overnight on Wednesdays so it can install Windows updates.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Windows 10<\/h3>
<\/p>\n

To check for available updates, simply do the following:<\/p>\n

  1. Click on the Windows<\/strong> icon on the bottom-left of your screen.<\/li>\n
  2. Type Windows Update<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Click on Windows Update settings<\/strong> in the results.<\/li>\n
  4. Click Check for updates<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  5. Windows will check for updates.\u00a0 You should install any updates that are marked as critical\u00a0<\/em>or important<\/strong>.\u00a0 You can also install recommended <\/strong>updates if you so choose.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Windows 8 and Windows 7<\/h3>

    4. Click Check online for updates from Windows Updates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
