  1. Open\u00a0System Preferences.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Choose\u00a0Network.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Click the\u00a0+<\/strong> sign in the left column to add a new network adapter.<\/li>\n
  4. Select\u00a0VPN<\/strong> as Interface.<\/li>\n
  5. Select\u00a0Cisco IPSec<\/strong> as VPN Type.<\/li>\n
  6. Enter BUMC <\/strong>as\u00a0the Service Name.<\/li>\n
  7. Click\u00a0Create.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  8. Check the box to\u00a0Show VPN status in menu bar<\/strong> (see note below)<\/em><\/li>\n
  9. Enter the\u00a0Server Address<\/strong> of the VPN server (vpn.bumc.bu.edu<\/strong>).<\/li>\n
  10. Fill in\u00a0your <\/em>BU login name<\/strong> in the\u00a0Account Name<\/strong> field.<\/li>\n
  11. Leave the password blank so that the connection prompts for your Kerberos password once you connect.<\/li>\n
  12. To show the VPN status in the menu bar and enable you to start the connection at any time\u00a0check the box in the left lower corner.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  13. Click\u00a0Authentication Settings.
    \n<\/strong>The\u00a0Shared Secret and the\u00a0Group Name<\/strong> are\u00a0both<\/em> BUMC<\/strong><\/strong> (CaSe SeNsItIvE)<\/li>\n
  14. Click\u00a0OK.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  15. Click on Advanced<\/strong>, and then click the plus sign (+) <\/strong>under Search Domains<\/strong>.\u00a0 Add ad.bu.edu<\/strong> to the list.\u00a0 Click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    After completing these steps, you are ready to connect to the VPN.<\/p>\n

    Note: <\/strong>When setting up the VPN, click the check box to Show VPN status in menu bar <\/strong>so the VPN icon\u00a0\"vpn-icon.tiff\"shows in the menu bar. A drop-down menu lists all VPN connections that you have set up and allows you to start or stop the connection. After initiating the connection you will be prompted for your Kerberos password.
