Ethernet settings are managed in the\u00a0Network and Sharing Center<\/strong> in Windows 7 and Windows Vista.<\/p>\n

  1. Locate the\u00a0network icon on your taskbar<\/strong>, in the lower-right corner of your screen. The icon usually depicts one or two computers with a globe or wire.<\/li>\n
  2. Right-click<\/strong> on the network icon and choose\u00a0Network and Sharing Center.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. In the Windows 7 Network and Sharing Center, click on\u00a0Local Area Connection<\/strong> next to you wired network and then click\u00a0Properties<\/strong>. In Windows Vista, click on\u00a0Manage network connections<\/strong>, found on the left side of the window.<\/li>\n
  4. Click first on\u00a0Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP\/IPv.4)<\/strong> and then click\u00a0Properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  5. For a DHCP connection (most BUMC offices), your TCP\/IP Properties should be set to\u00a0Obtain an IP address automatically<\/strong> and\u00a0Obtain DNS server address automatically<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  6. Click\u00a0OK<\/strong> and\u00a0Close<\/strong> until you return to the Network and Sharing Center.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Do you need to use a static IP address instead of DHCP? (Probably not.)<\/h3>\n

    <\/strong>If you are in one of the\u00a0few offices on campus <\/strong>where static addresses are used instead of DHCP, you should get your\u00a0IP address<\/strong> and\u00a0Default gateway <\/strong>from your local network administrator.<\/p>\n

    Follow Steps 1-4 above, then for Step 5 choose\u00a0Use the following IP address<\/strong> and fill in the exact values your administrator gave you for\u00a0IP address<\/strong> and\u00a0Default gateway<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    When you use a static address, you will need to enter some DNS server values. The DNS server values for BU are:<\/p>\n
