This application is Internet enabled allowing access from any Internet connected computing device.<\/p>\n<p>The following requirements must be met to correctly and appropriately access, log onto and work with the INSPIR Application modules.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Browser Level:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a web-based application, you will be accessing it using an internet browser.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are using a\u00a0<strong><em>Macintosh<\/em><\/strong> computer, your browser must be either\u00a0<strong><em>Netscape<\/em><\/strong>, Version 7 or higher or<strong><em>Safari for Mac<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0<strong><em>Microsoft\u2019s Internet Explorer for Mac<\/em><\/strong> is not supported.<\/li>\n<li>If you are using a PC, your browser must be\u00a0<strong><em>Internet Explorer<\/em><\/strong>, Version 6.0 or higher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cookies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To properly display many of the INSPIR modules, your browser must have \u2018cookies\u2019 enabled. To enable cookies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Internet Explorer<\/em>:<\/strong> From the Tools menu, select Internet Options, select Privacy and either enable cookies for all web sites or to specifically enable cookies for the INSPIR application, select Web Site Section, select Edit and enter https:\/\/braan.bumc.bu.edu and click allow.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Safari 1.0 for Macintosh<\/em>:<\/strong> From the toolbar at the top select Safari and then select Preferences from the list. Click on the Security option in the top toolbar and where it says \u201cAccept Cookies\u201d either select \u201cAlways\u201d or \u201cOnly from sites you navigate to\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Netscape<\/em>:<\/strong> From the Edit menu, select Preferences, select Privacy and Security, enable Cookies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pop-Up Blockers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Since the INSPIR application uses multiple windows to display information, it is essential that any Pop-Up blocking software be disabled while accessing the INSPIR application.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please refer to your particular Pop-Up Blocking software\u2019s documentation for instructions to disable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">Go To Top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"nologinpage\" name=\"nologinpage\"><\/a><strong><a name=\"#nologinpage\"><\/a>I can\u2019t get to the INSPIR login page.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>1. You get a message that the server can\u2019t be found.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you cannot get to other web sites, you are experiencing a network problem and need to contact your network administrator or your computer support office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Potential problems with your computer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>INSPIR is slow<br \/>\nYou are getting a \u201cPage cannot display\u201d error<br \/>\nThe windows do not display at all<\/p>\n<p>For any of these, you may be having a computer problem, possibly with your browser\u2019s security level, cookie settings or pop-up blocker settings.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/assistance\/desktop-requirements\/\">Click here to find out the computer prerequisites for using INSPIR.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If your error is any of the above, and you cannot solve it, please contact your computer support department.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. You attempt to get to the login page and get the following error:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/files\/Images\/ErrorBrowserNotSupported.gif\" border=\"3\" alt=\"Screenshot of Error Browser Not Supported Page\" \/><\/p>\n<p>INSPIR only supports certain browsers;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/assistance\/desktop-requirements\/\">click here to review the list of supported browsers.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mac users\u2013the most recent version of Safari (v 1.2) is not yet supported, but should be in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">Go To Top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"atloginpage\" name=\"atloginpage\"><\/a><strong><a name=\"#atloginpage\"><\/a>I am at the INSPIR login page, but cannot login.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>1. I see an \u201cError Processing Request\u201d page like the one below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/files\/Images\/ErrorProcessingRequest.gif\" border=\"3\" alt=\"Screenshot of Error Processing Request Page\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you just activated your account, you will typically not be able to login to INSPIR until the following day. If you continue to receive this error message 24 hours after activating your account, email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:helpdesk@bumc.bu.edu\">Help Desk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. I keep getting prompted for my username and password until I see the following \u201cYou are not authorized to view this page\u201d error screen:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/files\/Images\/ErrorWebPage.gif\" border=\"3\" alt=\"Screenshot of Error on Web Page\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You are either logging in with the incorrect username and password or your account has not been activated.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Make sure you are logging in correctly.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You need to login with your BU Login Name (less than 8 characters long) and Kerberos password (between 10 and 14 characters long, two uppercase and two lowercase letters and at least one number or punctuation mark).<\/p>\n<p>To test whether or not you are using the correct Login Name and Password, link to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/directory\/change-entry.html\">http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/directory\/change-entry.html<\/a>, go to the bottom of the page and click on \u201cLog in to the BU Electronic Directory.\u201d If you can login to the BU Online Directory successfully with exactly the same Login Name and password that you attempted to use at the INSPIR login page, read on below.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Did you activate your INSPIR account?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you received an email from braan@bu.edu with instructions on how to activate your account but you never activated your account, contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:helpdesk@bumc.bu.edu\">Help Desk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Are you a new employee, or were you never contacted about your INSPIR account?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/request\/\/\">Submit a brand new request for access to INSPIR.<\/a><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/assistance\/#top\">Go To Top<\/a><\/div>\n<h3><a id=\"success\" name=\"success\"><\/a><br \/>\n<strong><a name=\"#success\"><\/a>I successfully logged into INSPIR but am having problems.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>I am in INSPIR, but I don\u2019t see any of my current protocols:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Make sure you click on \u201cView Protocols\u201d under the\u00a0word \u201cInvestigator\u201d on the left column of the web page. If you don\u2019t see the \u201cView Protocols\u201d option, click first on the small arrow located to the left of the word \u201cInvestigator\u201d, this will extend the list of options for this role.<\/p>\n<p>If you clicked \u201cView Protocols\u201d under \u201cInvestigator\u201d and got\u00a0the message \u201cNo Data Found\u201d, that means you don\u2019t have \u201cRead\/write\u201d privileges to any protocol. You\u00a0need to be granted\u00a0\u201dRead\/write\u201d privileges to a protocol before it can show up here.<\/p>\n<p>For more help on IACUC protocols, please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:iacuc@bu.edu\">IACUC<\/a>.<br \/>\nFor more help on IRB protocols, please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:medirb@bumc.bu.edu\">IRB<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I am in INSPIR, but can\u2019t create a new protocol:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For IACUC protocols, please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:iacuc@bu.edu\">IACUC<\/a>.<br \/>\nFor IRB protocols, please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:medirb@bumc.bu.edu\">IRB<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I am in INSPIR and can create a new protocol, but I am not getting any of my email reminders:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>If you work for BMC, the VA, or another institution besides BU, make sure you have set the correct forwarding email address in your BU Online Directory Listing<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/directory\/change-entry.html\">click here<\/a> to login to the BU Online Directory. Make sure that your email address appears correctly in your listing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I am creating a new protocol in INSPIR, but I can\u2019t add an individual to the protocol (Administrator, Co-Investigator, Additional Research Personnel):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please make sure you are entering the last name correctly (not the full name). For best results just key in the first three letters of the individaual\u2019s last name and click on the Binoculors. If this individual is still not found, then\u00a0he\/she does not have an INSPIR account. Please have the individual in question link to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/request\/\">http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/request\/<\/a> to submit a new user request for an INSPIR account.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I can create a new protocol, but INSPIR won\u2019t let me submit it (and I am the Principal Investigator (PI) for the protocol):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"mailto:medirb@bu.edu?subject=Request%20for%20Submit%20Privileges&amp;body=Please%20be%20sure%20to%20indicate%20your%20full%20name,%20title,%20and%20your%20INSPIR%20username%20below.\">Click here.<\/a><\/strong> A request for \u201cSubmit\u201d privileges email will be generated. Type in\u00a0your full name, title, and INSPIR username and click on \u201cSend\u201d. You will later receive an email notification when you have been granted the \u201cSubmit\u201d privileges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I\u2019m done working on a\u00a0protocol and now someone else needs to access it but they keep getting a message that the protocol is locked by me:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The system locks the protocol when someone is editing it and will release the locking mechanism only if the protocol was properly closed by clicking on the \u201cX\u201d icon within the INSPIR application. If you kept the protocol open or you closed the entire web browser, then you didn\u2019t properly close the protocol and the lock has not been released.\u00a0 To release the lock, you need to login into INSPIR and go back to\u00a0that protocol and select \u201cRemove Lock\u201d from the \u201cWhat would you like to do?:\u201d drop down menu and then click \u201cGo\u201d. This will release the lock and allow others to edit the protocol. If the protocol was left locked, the system will automatically unlock all locked protocol every day at 1:00 am. If the person who locked the protocol\u00a0is not available to unlock\u00a0it and someone else needs to access it and can\u2019t wait till the next day, please contact the\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:medirb@bu.edu\">IRB.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>I can log in to INSPIR, but I\u2019m having technical problems filling out the protocol forms:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please send a detailed email describing your difficulty to:<\/p>\n<p>For IACUC protocols, please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:iacuc@bu.edu\">IACUC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For IRB protocols, please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:medirb@bumc.bu.edu\">IRB<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>INSPIR is not displaying correctly (the page looks different than it usually does):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You may be having a computer problem, possibly with your browser\u2019s security level, cookie settings or pop-up blocker settings.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/inspir\/assistance\/desktop-requirements\/\">Click here to find out the computer prerequisites for using INSPIR.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If there are any other questions that have not been answered by this form, please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:bumc-it-service@bu.edu\">BUMC IT Service Desk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">Go To Top<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Support for INSPIR Desktop Requirements.
