Studies that involve genetics research include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gene transfer or gene therapy (these studies require review by the Human Gene Therapy Committee, a subcommittee of the Institutional Biosafety Committee of Boston University and Boston Medical Center)<\/li>\n<li>Pedigree study (to discover the pattern of inheritance of a disease and to catalog the range of symptoms)<br \/>\nPositional cloning (to localize and identify specific genes)<\/li>\n<li>DNA Diagnostic study (to develop techniques for determining the presence of specific DNA mutations or polymorphisms)<\/li>\n<li>Association Studies (genotype-phenotype correlation) including GWAS (genome wide association studies)<\/li>\n<li>Genetic pharmacokinetic research<\/li>\n<li>Collecting Data for submission to the NIH database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More information about genetics research may be found by <a title=\"Contact Us\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/irb\/contact-us\/\">contacting us<\/a> or at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/ohra\/hrpp-policies\/hrpp-policies-procedures\/#7.2.2.16.2\">HRPP Policies and Procedures<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Investigators must indicate in their submissions whether their research involves genetic testing, gene therapy, or collection of genetic information.
