Whereas HIV may be transmitted via infected cells in genital secretions and breast milk, cell-associated HIV transmission has been largely neglected by the HIV prevention research community, which has primarily focused on cell-free virus infection models. Several presentations (many by IPCP investigators) were given on various aspects of cell-mediated HIV transmission with a focus on the use of antibodies, delivered through topical microbicides or vaccines, to prevent this mechanism of HIV transmission.<\/p>\n
