A research experience during residency can help you prepare for fellowship or a career as a physician-scientist,\u00a0 but it can also be a way to pursue your passion. The Residency Program and Department of Medicine have a number of resources to help make your research experience fit your personal and professional goals.<\/p>\n

Getting Started<\/span><\/h2>\n

Resident Research and Scholarship Committee<\/h4>\n

The resident led Research and Scholarship Committee<\/a> connects you with a variety of available research resources on campus for getting started with a new project and finding a mentor who shares you interests. They also keep you up to date on how to get involved at local and national conferences – as an attendee, presenting a poster or oral abstract, or facilitating a workshop or training.<\/p>\n

Promotion of Research in Medical Residency (PRIMER)<\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n

The Promotion of Research in Medical Residency (PRIMER) program is an exciting new opportunity for physician scientists that customizes the PGY 3 & 4 experience to maximize research exposure and training. Residents in this program are assigned a research mentor, participate in skill building and career development workshops and have 18 months of dedicated research time. Learn More.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"ResidentCollaboration with a faculty sponsored project<\/h4>\n

Work with faculty from the Department of Medicine’s renowned research programs to preventing, diagnosing, and treating human diseases. Past residents have worked on unique projects in collaboration with faculty from the\u00a0Framingham Heart Study,\u00a0<\/a>National Emerging Infectious Disease Institute,\u00a0<\/a>Grayken Center for Addiction Medicine,\u00a0<\/a>Center of Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease<\/a> to name a few.<\/p>\n

Education, Quality Improvement & Qualitative Projects<\/h4>\n

In addition to basic and clinical research, many residents are actively involved in faculty mentored MedEd, QI and qualitative projects. Many of the hospital’s quality improvement and education innovations are inspired by resident led initiatives.<\/a><\/p>\n

Presenting your Work<\/span><\/h2>\n

Senior Resident Academic Day (SRAD)<\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n

SRAD is the Residency Programs’s annual event to celebrate the scholarly work of senior residents. Senior residents present poster and oral presentations of clinical and basic research, clinical vignettes, and education and QI projects.<\/p>\n

Local and National Conferences<\/h4>\n

Residents are extremely active in regional and national associations. Many have run workshops, presented posters & oral abstracts, and won awards for their work at national conferences for Society of General Internal Medicine and the American Society of Nephrology, among many others. On campus opportunities for scholarship include the BMC Center for Health Equity Annual Symposium<\/a>, McCahn Medical Campus Education Day, and BMC Quality and Patient Safety Week.<\/p>\n

Evans Days\u00a0\"Academic<\/h4>\n

Evans Day<\/a> is an annual event showcasing the Department of Medicine’s research work celebrates resident and trainee scholarship with an oral abstract and poster session, visiting speakers and an awards banquet.<\/p>\n

Publications<\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n

We are proud to have our residents published in a number of prestigious journals in a variety of specialties. The department’s Education Evaluation Core<\/a> is available to help you with prepare your study design, draft your manuscript and submit to the appropriate journal.<\/p>\n
