The Section of Infectious Diseases sets the standards for Hospital Epidemiology and Antimicrobial Stewardship. The research in this area focuses on a range disciplines ranging from evidence-based management of acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) to evaluating implementation science methods to improve access to care for vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n

\"\" Tamar Barlam, MD<\/a><\/p>\n

Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship for the Boston Medical Center. She has close to 30 years\u2019 experience directing antimicrobial stewardship programs. Her research is focused on understanding factors that influence antimicrobial prescribing, and the implementation and impact of stewardship interventions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Shana Burrowes, PhD, CPH<\/a><\/p>\n

Dr. Burrowes’ focus has been on infectious diseases with an emphasis on health in the Caribbean and minority and immigrant communities in the US.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\" Mari- Lynn Drainoni, Phd, MEd<\/a><\/p>\n

Some of her current research projects include: 1) an AHRQ-funded study evaluating alternative implementation strategies for antibiotic stewardship in two large inpatient hospital systems across the US.<\/span><\/p>\n

Medical Director of Public Health Programs and the Associate Hospital Epidemiologist at Boston Medical Center and the Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Council<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Rebecca Rudel, DrPH, MPH<\/a><\/p>\n

Dr. Rudel has expertise in mixed methods evaluations with an intensive focus on qualitative analysis. With a background as a dietitian, Professor Rudel combines her clinical and research expertise to design and evaluate interventions to improve health outcomes. She also takes an equity lens to her work, aiming to create an environment where all people have the ability to achieve optimal health.<\/span><\/p>\n
